Weight lost during pre-op liquid diet

Recommended Posts

Hi, I am just curious to hear what all of you lost only during the 2 week liquid diet phase. I know everyone has/had different direction up to the pre-op liquid diet (for example I have to log a journal for 3 months and lose 6 lbs before referral to my surgeon). I am curious how weight lose during that 2 week period varies. If you are comfortable putting you starting weight, height, and age too I would appreciate it! I am hoping to be sleeved in august. Thanks in advance. (Sorry if I am being nosy, I am excited and curious and interested all at once)

I'm 43 years young, 5'6", my starting weight was 315 and I weighed 298 on the date of my surgery. I had a 13 day pre-op diet that consisted of 2 high Protein shakes and a single meal with lean meat, non starchy veg, (low fat/no carbs). I could add an additional shake or a handful of nuts if needed for hunger. Then for the day before I was on Clear liquids and nothing after midnight.

So it sounds like even this can differ from Dr to Dr. Some have liquid diet 1 week, 2 weeks, or 1 day? I wonder what I will have to do. I think I'm going to start some shakes here and there so it's not a culture shock. I've already been upping my Protein.

Good idea to try out the Protein drinks. Also upping your Protein now will help your hair later...

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
