I'm not banded yet(June 27) but here are the ones my Doc and dietician drummed into my head.

1)three meals a day

2)stop when approching full, not a mouthful more

3)small bites

4)chew very well and eat slowly

5)Don't drink with food

6)Don't eat high caloric food that will pass through the band easily(ice cream etc)

7)No high caloric drinks

I'm sure there are more that I want to know about too !!! Best of luck with your band Marga

I am in Kansas City. I have a surgery date of Aug 8. Dr Hoehn's group makes you go see a Nutritionist. She has a Booklet she has put together with the suggested post-op diet and what you should be eating and doing for like 6 months post op. You know what foods you can re-introduce and such. Where are you getting yours done?

Most Important Rule: Follow Your Doctors Orders...eat Only What You Are Supposed To Eat...if You Eat Solid Foods During Your Healing Stage ( First Five To Six Weeks) You Could Mess Up Your Band....not All Doctors Give The Same Post Op Diets...be Sure You Know What You Are Supposed To Have To Eat For The First Six Weeks....and Don't Eat Anything That He Doesn't Say You Can Eat....

Don't drink for at least an hour after eating....maintain that full feeling and don't flush everything through the band!

Don't compare yourself to anyone else's weight loss. Everybody is different and just about everybody has plateaus.

Exercise.

Think about your behaviors....Do you eat when bored? In front of the TV? Start taking apart your relation ship with food. Eat where there are no distractions and eat mindfully. Find another hobby (like exercise).

We lie to ourselves about food. when in doubt about your caloric intake, keep a food/calorie/fat/carb/protein journal. Even a day's worth can be eye opening.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
