Feeling sick after eating

Recommended Posts

Hi

Had my sleeve done April 11th 2015

I just started my soft foods today. Everything has been great until I tried supper. Had fish and carrots. Ate about 1 oz of my fish and hardly any carrots and now I am feeling sick. Stomach is hurting and I feel like I'm going to throw up. Is this normal for the first time you eat anything more solid than yogurt and Soup?

It is and can be challenging to learn your new tummy. It's like a newborn. One thing you can try is to just eat one new food at a time. That way if you have any nausea or pain it's easier to pinpoint which food caused the problem.

It does get easier as time passes. Also, if you do not tolerate something just wait a while and you can try it again.

Good luck - you can do it!!!

Thank you! I did end up throwing up and feel a lot better. Just got a little scared I guess.

I will for sure try to only eat one fpod at a time to see what I can tolerate or not.

Hi, was on liquids for a week, full liquids for another week and this week is soft foods.

Next week I can start normal foods.

I think maybe I did not chew my fish well enough today and it made me feel sick. So will take it a lot easier.

Make sure to eat super super slow and make sure foods are really moist. Adding sauces sometimes helps.

It can occur when you eat or drink too fast. Especially early on when everything is still healing. If you are getting that feeling it may mean you need to slow down your eating/drinking.

I was told not to eat or drink anything that was too cold or too hot. I am 3 weeks out tomorrow and I am getting a feeling of a lump in my throat or a tightening that's uncomfortable..if I can then burp it seems to relieve it...this is after I eat. Is this normal?

I wasn't given those instructions. In fact I was given ice chips in recovery and hot tea once on the floor. I would say try really slowing down your eating and drinking. I'm talking super slow sips and waiting in between sips. If it persist call your doctor.

Check with your surgeon. I wasn't allowed to eat anything but pureed food for 4 weeks after surgery. The first 2 weeks were liquids only. I think you are not giving your system enough time to heal. There is still a great deal of inflammation.

I didn't eat solid food for a good two months. The heartburn is still with me and seems to be

getting worse. I hear so many people talking about the heart burn and that feeling in your chest

like you are having a heart attack. I think it happens to most people who have the sleeve.

@@Edavidson - Are you taking a PPI? If left unchecked the heartburn can lead to ulcers.

I am going to my PCP next month and asking her for something for my heartburn. It hurts so bad I

can't hardly breath. I thought everyone had it after the surgery. For the past three weeks I have

been able to eat a little more since I had the surgery. I feel like I am gaining weight but the

scale does not say that I am. I am terrified of gaining my weight back. I don't think I could deal with it. I will starve before I gain all of my weight back.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
