@@Courtneyxo17 calm down and breathe! My surgery was last Thursday. I can tell you what my experience was day of surgery...I woke up, got my shower with their shower soap, got to the hospital when they told me to, they bumped me up to an earlier time. I got to the room to change into a gown, they got an IV in me...I thought I'd be waiting around an hour or so.....but nope...they said, we bumped you up again. No time for nerves. right after they said that, next thing I know I am in recovery. Easy Peasy. While it is major surgery, it was the easiest surgery experience ever. They provide the very best pain meds ever, too. You can do this. just walk into that hospital with confidence, and optimism and you will do just fine. The only pain I had was where the drain was. Once that was removed, it was all uphill! (I walked within an hour of being moved to my room, too!) Best wishes to you for a speedy recovery!

I have had general anesthesia 4 times. The first two times I threw up in recovery afterwards, not that I had anything to actually throw up. The 3rd time the anesthesiologist added additional anti-nausea meds to my IV during surgery. He also kept the IV in during recovery rather than pulling it prior to leaving the OR. By keeping the IV in they could quickly give me an anti-nausea med quickly if I needed it. I did not.

For the sleeve surgery I mentioned my prior experiences to the anesthesiologist. She indicated that due to this being a GI surgery they give extra anti-nausea meds to all the patients. I had no issues for this surgery.

Everyone reacts differently to general anesthesia but the majority of people do just fine. And realistically throwing up a little clear was no big deal. It was not heaving just more like baby spit-up and refluxy. Not pleasant but not awful either.

As far as getting the anesethesia-one moment you are awake in OR and the next you are waking up in recovery. Actually for the sleeve I don't remember the recovery room, I remember waking up in my room.

The great thing about surgery is that you are unconscious the whole time. They put you under and by the time you wake up, it's all over! No reason to be afraid! The anesthesia is really the BEST part. Now, the recovery is a whole other story... Take it one day at a time and little by little you will get better.

You all made me feel better too, my procedure is Wed., and I welcome all the positive input I can get, and to you Courtney, you have nothing to worry about regarding the anesthesia, you'll never even remember it and you'll have a beautiful sleep. Being kind of an insomniac, I welcome some good sleep time.....and very excited about the procedure. Good luck to you and thanks again to all who replied

Its absolutely expected to have a healthy dose of fear-you're putting your life in someone's hands. That being said, you need to breath through it and trust that you've made the best decision for your health and your life. I have every confidence you'll do fine. Don't be afraid to mention your apprehension to the surgical team-they hear it a lot and can offer reassurance. And good drugs. The best part.

Thanks for posting this. I'm another Jersey Girl, about to get sleeved 5/21, 11 days to go. Ugh was stressing about anesthesia too! Not sure why. You think I'd be more concerned about my new stomach healing properly lol

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
