Hopeful for PCOS Relief and sharing with friends!

Recommended Posts

Hi......I am going for my initial consultation for surgery this Saturday. I can't wait, been battling weight ever since I was diagnosed with PCOS 15 years ago. I am also insulin resistant. A somewhat unrelated question but how open have you been with people about having your surgery? I am open about my PCOS etc, I suppose it's kind of an excuse for my weight etc but I am not sure if I want to share about my surgery with friends etc. I don't want to lie to people but I am not sure if I can cope with the negativity etc.........any advise would be greatly received!

Hello hun. I myself have PCOS also and this has not helped with my weight loss w/out surgery. I never shared that with anyone unless i am asked.. The sleeve surgery I only told my closest friend and family members.. But some people think this is just a easy way out and don't understand how hard the whole process is. Is not a miracle easy step is hard is hard work. The surgery is just a tool it wont work if u dont put hard work to it. Like follow all the steps and work out.. Is not easy but pplz that have no knowledge of it wont see it that way. For that reasonable I only told closest family like mom dad and husband. And my two bffs. And when they ask how im loosing weight u just said working out and eating healthier thats it. Hope this help. Sorry if my spelling is wrong i don't speak english well. Good luck.

Thankyou for your response, your spelling is fabulous. I don't think I will make my decision common knowledge. My closest friend knows as does my family, the only real issue they seem to have is the cost and all the other things I could spend the money on. They don't understand that I don't enjoy anything because how I feel about me.......I can't wait to begin this adventure. It feels like a new beginning. x (I have to add my husband is amazing and is paying for the surgery, he says I don't need to do it for him but if it will make me happier then it will be worth it)

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
