What are you guys eating after 6 weeks from bypass surgery? Would you guys share a typical day?

I struggling with food, or shakes, I don't have any strictures or problem, just my stomach can take certain food, and I get full very fast, I'm not taking 60gr of Protein. I'm feeling very discouraged.

I am 2 years post-op on RNY surgery. At 6 weeks from bypass surgery, I was limited to 2 ounces per meal. At this stage food is relatively unimportant because my body was converting stored fat into the energy to drive my body. What was important was to meet the Protein, Fluid and Vitamin requirements of the program.

As time goes on and your meal volume increases, food again becomes important. This is because you will eventually reach your bottom weight and enter a maintenance phase. It also gives you the ability to consume more Protein from your meals. Your protein requirement is the sum of the protein obtained from meals combined with the protein obtained through supplements (protein shakes, protein bars). I strongly disliked Protein Shakes and as I progressed in the program; my meal volume increased; I obtained more protein from meals; and I reduced my Protein Shakes down to zero.

This article describes my experience with the program. http://www.breadandbutterscience.com/Surgery.pdf

At 6 weeks I was on the soft food diet. I remember it well because I was so darned excited to get off the puréed stage. I personally did not do well with that stage at all.

Here is an example of my typical day at that point:

I would always start my day with a premier Protein shake - back then I had to milk it down because it was too thick for my stomach. 50/50 skim lactose free milk and Protein Shake. This gave me a jump start on Protein

Yo plait light yogurt for Breakfast ( I do not tolerate Greek yogurt, it makes me gag)

Mid morning I would either have a cup of lactose free skim milk or the other half of my Protein Shake - 50/50

lunch - cottage cheese 1/4 cup with very small amount of canned fruit like pears or peaches

Mid afternoon I would have the opposite of what I had for mid morning. Either a cup of milk or the other half of my shake from the morning. Whichever I did not drink for mid morning snack

dinner - my favorite was Greek chicken or fish. And veggies. 2 bites of protein for every one bite of veggies. Veggies need to be cooked until they are very soft. For me cauliflower was my favorite. I have also fallen in love with carrots. About once a week I would have a spoonful of sweet potatoe or mashed potatoe.

Evening snack - a cup of lactose free skim milk

The further I got down the road, I would try new Proteins. Also at this stage it helps to have some type of sauce or gravy with your protein. It helps it to go down a lot easier.

Good luck!

@@foodfighter78 I'm so sorry you're having a hard time. What do you eat in an average day and maybe we can find what's causing the dumping syndrome.

I start my morning with a Protein Shake, half way I'm full, then I drink about 10 oz Water, then I try to finish my shake and I feel so full I can't eat anything else. Last night a try deli turkey at the 2 nd chew super good bite I start dumping, this morning I could drink a shake or eat a bar, I made some cous cous and was ok. It mostly Protein that hurts. It feels like a have lots of gas, I burp and burp but then pain gets bad until I force it out and I vomit, I eat small bites every 5 min.

I was able to eat everything after week 6. The only thing that occasionally gives me trouble is pulled beef.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
