So I had heard that the process goes fast then slow then fast again. Well its true! I was so excited when I went for my consult on January 29th of this year and began the journey to surgery. I went to do my required pre-op and psych evaluation. I retrieved all my paperwork from my pcp and get everything turned in. Then disaster happened, the person handling my pre-cert went out on maternity leave early and the person taking over dropped the ball every way it could be dropped.

My wonderful husband took up the baton and went to the insurance company and got them to overturn their denial due to lack of information and now I am approved!! I am so excited again and the clock is running faster again. Can't wait to get my surgery date and get moving.

I have lost 28 pounds so far pre-surgery and am looking forward to losing many more!! Any advice and encouragement is appreciated and I look forward to talking with you all through-out my journey!

Word of advice to pre-surgical folks. Be your own advocate and stay on top of your insurance and surgeons office. They have many patients to look after and you can fall through the cracks!

my advice - in 10 words or less ;)

READ, READ, READ - then read some more

go to U-Yube

knowledge is power!!

come to these boards often with your questions

go to the SEARCH area in the top right hand corner

people are very nice, helpful, informative, and supportive

you'll hear different experiences from people

at the end of the day, listen to your doc/NUT (or me)

Look, Learn, Listen

(mom told me that when i was 4 years old LOL)

some rules to follow

practice makes perfect

drink Water all day (at least 64 oz)

stop drinking 30 minutes before you eat

don't drink throughout your meal :o

don't drink for 45-60 minutes after you finish eating

chew your food very slowly

eat your Protein first (ie chicken, fish)

limit carbs, sugar

controversy concerning drinking soda and coffee

soda - yes or no

coffee concerns too

i can safely say all docs tell you that you MUST stop smoking

check and listen to your doc/NUT

phew, i'm tired

this is the end of your first lesson

there will be a test in one week ;)

don't want to overwhelm you with too many rules

you'll eventually learn more

28 lbs down!!!!

4 lbs from twoderville!!! B)

hope your surgery date is sooner than later

good luck on your never ending journey

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
