How long were you out of work?

Recommended Posts

I work a full time job during the week and I have a part time job on the weekends. I'm having surgery on a Tuesday, do you think I can make it to my weekend job on Saturday? It's a desk job and I have no leave. Thanks.

It depends on a lot of things. Which type of surgery? How is your pain tolerance? Will you be off pain meds by then?

Frankly, I could have gone to work by then but you will be tired, just prepare for that. I was off the pain meds by then, too. In fact, I stopped taking them the day I got home from the hospital. You don't want to drive while on the pain meds. But I have a pretty high tolerance for pain. I also do a desk job and was petty good by then, though a little slow. You can't be carrying anything heavy. One of the biggest things to deal with is what and how to eat.

But I can't tell you what to do, I can only tell you that I possibly could have done it but I don't think most people could/would.

Make sure to take care of yourself regardless of your decision.

I had gastric bypass and am unexpected hiatal hernia repaired on Tuesday and today is Sunday. There is no way I could have worked today. I can't even stay awake or sit upright all day. I do have a high pain tolerance and have only taken my pain meds once, usually late afternoon, per day since coming home. I cannot imagine having to go back To work or focus on anything except healing, walking and learning to deal with my new stomach and lifestyle.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
