I know coffee is a big "no-no" but I really miss it. I'm wondering how many of you are drinking coffee and at what point did you start? Also, did it upset you stomach? Help with Constipation?

Thanks:)

I actually started drinking coffee about two months ago. Decaf at first now regular. I'm almost 6 mo PO. It's never bothered my sleeve. But the caffeine does deplete your Vitamins. No wonder I'm balding lol

My doctor's office is fine with coffee, no more than two cups per day. I was a big coffee drinker prior to surgery 3-4 cups/day sometimes more, but since surgery I haven't had any desire for it.

I will tell you of my recent experience with coffee: I normally (before surgery) would have one cup/day, a few times a week, when I would get sleepy. I am allowed NOW one or two cups A WEEK. Well, this past week I tried having it 2 days in a row (one cup, mind you), and BOY OH BOY did it start the HUNGER factor going!!!! All I wanted to do that second day was eat!!!! There was no stopping the craving to eat. I would drink Water and other beverages to try and curb this wild animal, but NOOOOO! I went to bed feeling like I was starving....not good.

So today, I am going back to the basics, Protein shakes, and other beverages, to get back on track. No more coffee for me unless it is DIRE! I have learned my lesson!!!

I drank it the whole time. Before, after, every day. I can't really finish a whole cup at a time but I do have 2 or 3 half cups throughout the morning. It never bothered me.

I was a big coffee drinker. Drink Decaf now. One cup a day. My surgeon said I could drink regular but it does not taste the same as before surgery so I just stayed with decaf.

I was told to wait till 3 months to have reg but I was allowed Decaf after my 1 week f/u. Amazing how Drs orders are so different.

I now have about 16ounces a day & never had issues. It does not have a real effect on helping me to stay regular but I know some people says it helps them immediately.

I'm 8wks out, and started back drinking regular coffee about 2wks ago. I was a HUGE coffee drinker, probably at least 5-6 cups a day. Now I drink one in the morning and one in the afternoon. It has never bothered my sleeve. And it definitely helps keep me regular. I think it works better than my stool softener lol..

I was given the go ahead for one cup of coffee w/almond milk at 2 months each day. Have not had any issues at all.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
