Is my hair going to grow back?

Recommended Posts

When was your surgery? Didn't they tell you this may be one of the after-effects of the surgery? My hair started falling out at about 3 months out. I am now almost 5 months out, and it is finally slowing down. I figure I have lost about 1/3 of my hair, but from all over my head, not clumps. It SEEMS like clumps sometimes by how much I get in a handful, but no, it is from all over. The most noticeable area is at my temples. But it DEFINATELY is slowing down now.

Everyone will have a different experience, but I am told it will eventually stop, and grow back(by my nurse and dietician team). I am using Nioxin Shampoo (only the shampoo, it seemed the treatments actually made more hair fall out, but I can't prove that). It seems that when I started using it, the hair slowed it's fall-out. But I don't know tat it was the shampoo, just the timing. I see a few new ones coming in, but not a whole lot, yet. I got the Nioxin on Amazon.com, but I understand salons carry it, as well. It cleans out the follicles, but doesn't regrow hair.

And Biotin will not regrow hair, either, but will make what you have look great!

Just remember, this, too shall pass. You get used to it, and realize it is just hair. What I did to help me feel better about it was to get a new hair-do. I had it blunt cut to just under my chin, and it helped it by making it look fuller. Good luck to you!

A couple other things my NUT told me was to not color or perm, as it may make it break off more easily, and try not to use ponytail holders, for the same reason. Just another hurdle to weight loss success!

I'm going to get a short cut next week. Tried of the hair all over the bathroom and shower. I will let you know if this helps.

I don't know if I could hold off coloring my hair....This would be bad for me. I wonder if there is a gentle coloring out there?

Do you normally do your own color, or go to a stylist? If you don't use a stylist, why not call one or two and ask what they would recommend? Make sure you tell them about the surgery, so they can suggest something pertinent for your situation, if one exists. Good luck to you!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
