Getting Enough Water

Recommended Posts

I am struggling to get my Water in. And I know half the time I feel hunger it is probably thirst. I flavor it but that's not helping. Any other tips/tricks? Also, at 4 weeks out, it feels like I can drink a lot at once. Is that normal?

Sip... don't gulp. Keep a cup next to you at all times. I NEVER drank Water before my surgery - it was always soda. I'm up to 2 gallons a day. I flavor it also and would not be able to do it without flavoring it.

You can do it!

Right there with you! 9 weeks here. Grape flavor, ice and a straw get me further than anything but still nowhere close.

I buy bottle Water. Have a bottle with me at all times. Have it at home, at work and also have it in my car. Seems an easier way to measure. I do flavor it sometimes.

OMG I was just about to post something about this. . I am having real issues with getting Water down. I just can't stomach it now. I sip and sip and gag. It's so weird, I used to guzzle water all day long, now I sip and it turns my stomach. I can drink juices, coffee, Protein Shakes, no worries at all, but bottled water is proving very difficult especially as I have just diagnosed myself as severely dehydrated. I am thirsty all the time. Any ideas for disguising water that does not taste grossly artificial

In addition to Water Enhancer drops, you may wish to try extracts like vanilla, lemon, orange....there are lots of extracts out there. I use a toothpick, dip it in the bottle, about an inch or so, then swish it in the Water. Make sure you get the natural extracts, and not the artificial ones. As they are so concentrated, you only need a tiny bit for each serving. I really like the peppermint in the summer. You can find them in the baking section of the grocery store. Good luck to you!

That's a great idea! A lot of the drops and packets do taste horribly artificial. Brands I like before surgery I do not like at all now.

So today it was 95 degrees where I live. Before surgery when I was out in the heat I would chug Water, but, now I can only sip. But, still managed to down 1 1/2g of liquids today.

Soy silly question is we are supposed to get at least 64oz in a day is there a too much point?

I used to drink ice Water all day, now it's easier to not be too cold. I also keep a water bottle with me at all times, might not always reach the goal but get enough to where I don't feel dehydrated or dryed out. Good luck!

I've read you should drink 1/2 to 1 ounce of water for every pound you weigh. If you live somewhere hot or are very active, aim for the upper end. Drinking too much water can dilute the sodium in your body which can cause problems like nausea, confusion, headaches etc. Low sodium (hyponatremia) can be very serious.

That is what I heard as well but didn't know if there was a different guideline for WLS Pts

The thing to remember is IF you are thirsty, you are ALREADY dehydrated, as thirst is a SYMPTOM of dehydration. Check the back of your hand; pinch the skin on it with your thumb and finger. Does it stay "pinched"? If so, you are likely dehydrated. If the skin springs back, you are probably ok for fluids. If in doubt, DRINK! If you are sweating, drink to rehydrate. In your hot climate, you need to stay ahead of the game. And, as always, check with your doctor if you have concerns. Good luck to you!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
