5 days post op and constantly hungry!

Recommended Posts

I was able to tolerate 2 oz of Protein shake the 3rd day after and now I am up to 5 oz at each sitting. I do get hungry after about 30 min to an hour but make sure I sip Water or drink so I can hydrate enough. The Soup is good but the Protein is what will make you feel a bit fuller. I still struggle with being hungry in between but use that as an excuse to drink more fluids. I have also been writing down how much each time on a tablet.

Hope this helps some.

Are you on a PPI? If not, check with your surgeon. For most people, excess stomach acid feels like hunger, and excess stomach acid can be a real issue after sleeve surgery.

I am on Pepcid AC 2x a day for acid. Except I'm not sure it is helping my hunger issues. My family is eating enchiladas right now and I feel like I could eat one right along with them. I'm not sure if it's because I did this surgery at a lower BMI or if it's because my body is deprived of food.

yeah trust me i thought i was super hungry, turns out its just you getting used to your new stomach and vice versa, youll get what feels like hunger pangs etc, but its just the trauma to the stomach and stomach acid. It took me about 2 weeks for mine to really go away, but go away it will.

That's good news! Thanks for the info. I'll be looking forward to that day.

Thank you for posting this! I'm 10 days post op and constantly hungry. It is making me crazy. I am trying to keep myself busy, I drink my Protein, but even Water doesn't help. I'm happy to hear it'll go away.

Try cream Soups. I'm 5 days post op from bypass & I can have them. They fill me up better than just broth or Protein Shakes.

I'm 6 days out and my stomach is constantly making all kinds of funky noises. It feels like hunger a lot, but I'm not really sure that I'm actually hungry. liquids are going down really easy so far. I agree @@MichelleTN, I made a creamed Soup last night and it was a lot more filling.

I was on liquids for three weeks following my surgery , and hungry the entire time. As difficult as it was being hungry all the time, I was happy that there was no nausea. The hunger went away after I started soft foods, now I only feel hunger occasionally.

Likely a combination of acid, old habits and head hunger. Hang in there. It does go away and it really does get better.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
