Shopping (gasp!) in a store

Recommended Posts

I have an interview coming up and needed to buy a new suit because I look ridiculous in my work clothes. All too big.

I went to Macy's. Now I live in NYC so the flagship store is my home store so it's giant and overwhelming and for years I almost never shopped unless it was online because honestly what was the point? Nothing worked.

Went to the 7th floor plus size section and felt so overwhelmed with my choices. I have no idea how straight size women shop in that store. There's too much to choose from. I found a suit size 20 and was happy. I then started to shop for a dress for a gala for my son's school.

This would normally put me in a deep depression and I would leave there with some potato sack. I was trying on a dress and asked another woman what she thought. She told me it wasn't good. Then I tried on another dress that I could only find a 18 even though I knew I was in 20s now. I came out to have the sales lady zip me up and it fit!!!

I'm not an 18 and I know it's just this fit but I'm taking it. And I'm going to that gala looking awesome!

I would say that is a NSV to be proud of! Great work!

And, I agree, that Macy's is overwhelming! But, boy does it have options :)

Believe me...it will make your head spin once you get into regular sizes. I was there last week taking advantage of the one day sale and spent five hours trying on stuff. I'm still not sure what size I am...plus I have to learn that size is secondary. I can be anywhere from a size 10 to a 4 in a dress, and an 8 to a 4 in slacks. So when I see something I like, I often have to try it on in a couple of sizes to see what fits better.

Guess what happened yesterday. I was in Talbot's on Madison Ave. and meandered on to the third floor. This was the only floor where the lady asked me if I was looking for something for myself. I said yes and she told me I was on the plus size floor and needed to go up to the fourth floor where the petite's were. She knew just based on my size, that I was on the wrong floor unless I was purchasing something for someone else. I wanted to run up to her and plant a big ole kiss on her..

Go walking I almost went to Talbots yesterday on Madison! I can't even imagine shopping in straight sizes. I may go bankrupt.

Sweetheart, it zipped. You are an 18. Until you become a 16.

Congratulations.

The prices are really high at the Midtown store. I went to the Talbots outlet in Deer Park on the Island and the prices there are much more reasonable. You should check it out if you can get out there.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
