Drinking too much water?

Recommended Posts

I am 8 days post-op currently. It says I should be sipping on 1oz Water every 15 minutes, and this worked for a few days but I've just been really thirsty with a really dry mouth and I pretty much have abandoned that plan. Now, it's not like how it used to be where I would just crush a water bottle in one go if I was really thirsty but I've upped my sips to probably 4oz. at a time. I haven't felt any negative effects over this, one time I felt a little full but other than that I feel fine? I'm not stretching my pouch or anything am i?

I believe Water passes through the stomach. That is the reason why they do not want you to drink fluids while you eat your meal. Because it would flush your food through your stomach before it has time to be processed.

I am 4 days post op and am now allowed to have 6 to 8 ounces over half an hour. a consideration with liquids is that they do weigh a lot so if you put too much into your pouch at one time it could cause some stretching or put a little undue pressure on the staples or sutures.

I had the same concern, I felt like Water went down very easy after the first few days. I emailed my Doc/nut and was told Water empties very fast, but to have no more than 4 ounces in 10 or 15 minutes, as that is about a brand new sleeve capacity.

I know that each Sleeve/Surgeon/person is different, but I had to pace myself so I wouldn't drink a bottle of water too fast.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
