Recommended Posts

Opinions please - i usually get foils in my hair around the second/third week of May. I will be 6/7 weeks post-op. Should I do them this year or forgo it?

I would skip it if it were me. Your hair is going to thin out some anyway (probably) you don't want it fragile where it could break off too. But that's just me. My hair fine, so I never color mine, due to breakage.

I've had my hair done every 6 weeks since before I got my sleeve and throughout the entire time I've had it. I have thin, easily breakable hair, and even though probably 1/3 of it fell out last year, it is now growing back in and I have my old level of thickness to about the tops of my ears. I have not noticed that my usual color or the foils I have done every 3 months made any difference in the fragility of my hair and I wasn't willing to have ugly roots just to find out.

My nurse suggested not coloring or perming during the "fall-out" stage, for the fact it might stress hair more so, in it's more fragile state. I never have colored my hair, and it's been over a decade since I last permed it. I am now really noticing a reduction in Hair loss (I'm almost 5 months out), after losing about a third of it. I've been using Nioxin Shampoo, and even though I can't attribute the reduction of hair loss to it, the loss started to ease up right after I did start using that shampoo. I'd say do what works for you, who knows, maybe you will like your natural color and want to stay with it!

I have pretty thick hair and I know I may lose some. It's not course or damaged, just super curly. I just didn't want to "help" it fall out. Lol I am going to ask my hairdresser before I go in but wanted others that have had the surgerys' opinions. If I don't do it I will really miss my "summer hair". It's just hair though it's worth not having it for a summer. Thank you for all your thoughts. ????

Nioxin is fantastic Shampoo to use. It is used a lot for cancer patients to help with hair growth. I have used it before due to some medications I was on to help my hair grow back and it worked wonderfully. My only downfall with Nioxin is that it broke my forehead out.

The fallout, if you get it, is caused by things that happen at the root level. I don't think coloring or highlighting it will make a difference with the fallout rate, but it might with breakage if you are prone to it.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
