Can I have frozen yogurt? I really have a taste for it and I can have regular yogurt.

I had RNY surgery. Yogurt was on my list of acceptable foods from day one. But it cannot be the kind of yogurt with fruit on the bottom because of the processed sugar content. As far as frozen yogurt, the concern would be what was added to the yogurt. RNY patients cannot tolerate sugar. A quick search of one brand of frozen yogurt showed that it had 43.9 grams of sugar in one serving. That's bad, very bad.

So I guess if you want frozen yogurt, you will need to investigate further. Read the labels in detail. Natural sugars found in fruit and artificial sweeteners are generally O.K. but processed sugars and other sweeteners such as corn Syrup are not. The other choice is to make your own frozen yogurt and control the ingredients. Greek yogurt has about twice the Protein as other yogurt.

I have included a "berry Smoothie" recipe in the short article I wrote on my experience with Bariatric Surgery. Here is a link. http://www.breadandbutterscience.com/Surgery.pdf When I reached my bottom weight, I completely transitioned off using Protein shakes, and started using berry smoothies instead because I was at that point getting most of my Protein from meals. Also I could tolerate more calories in my diet because I was in the maintenance phase.

Thanks James, I haven't dumped yet so I think you just saved me on that. Just trying to switch up the diet a little bit.

Here is the thing, not can take a yogurt that you normally eat and pop it in the freezer. It is delicious and you do not have to worry about the added sugar.

You have probably worked this out already but my rule of thumb is that if I have to as if I can have something or think a lot about it or it's not in a category on my Doctors list it's not healthy. We all get cravings for things but remember that's when willpower has to kick in. Be creative, eat a ice pop instead. Tropical sugar free has nicer flavors and Outshine no sugar added once a day is ok. Stay encouraged to keep going by looking at how far you have come. Have a wonderful day.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
