Perferated colon

Then gallstones

I had the rout end y on Jan 29, 2015 then April 7 they had to reopen me to repair a perferated bowel and now 2 weeks later I now have gallstones and an inflamed gallbladder. Surgeon said we have to wait couple months due to scar tissue. Is this normal?

Is this normal? This question seems to have two components.

Is it normal to have to wait for other surgeries after bariatric surgery. I believe the answer is yes. The body needs time to heal and the scar tissue is a problem.

Is it normal to experience other problems after surgery, specifically a perforated bowel or gallstones? I don't know the answer to this one. I didn't experience these problems after surgery and I suspect most individuals did not. So I suspect the answer is no.

I don't know about the perforated bowel but the gall bladder is a pretty common problem. Many surgeons automatically remove it when they do the gastric bypass. Mine didn't but I did have to go back and have it removed. People who lose a lot of weight usually end up having their gall bladder removed due to stones, etc.

So, I don't think this is necessarily unusual, just a hassle.

Gallstones are a very common post-RNY issue. I had my GB removed during RNY surgery, another friend did not and ended up with terrible gall bladder issues, septic and in a coma. So keep an eye on that GB!

My doctor prescribed me Ursodiol, I think the name brand is actigall To prevent gallbladder issues. I will be taking it for 6 months. He refused to remove mY gallbladder. I know the perforated colon is a risk that he told me about prior to surgery. His words exactly was follow my plan. His diet, his Vitamin plan, exercise. He said 99% of his patience have had no problems when they do everything he tells them. so I have been. I'm not that far out, but I'm sure the rusk is there. I just don't know what the chances of having both issues are or how one would effect the other.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
