Invictus 56 Posted April 25, 2015 I'm concerned about heartburn keeping me from the sleeve. I haven't had it forever, just the last year when I gained more weight. One OTC Prilosec each morning keeps it in check. Anyone else have a similar issue?
chunkyloverlovesyou 197 Posted April 25, 2015 Heartburn is killing me, it's constant
Finding-me 5 Posted April 25, 2015 This makes me nervous too! I already have acid issues, so I worry it will get much worse!
spiritfilled 32 Posted April 25, 2015 I have heartburn issues as well. So can the heartburn issues prevent you from having surgery? I have had severe pain in the middle of my chest, under my right breast through to my shoulder. I had a ultrasound Friday, on my stomach, gallbladder, pancreas, liver, all that good stuff. She told me she saw no gallstones so that was great news. I do know that my heartburn is worse after I have a fatty diet and the belts like crazy while drinking cokes.I Actually wake up in the middle of the night with pretty severe chest pains. I also have a small hernia that I just found out when I had my last kidney stone.
rwoods200 39 Posted April 25, 2015 I too have sever heartburn and take medication daily. My surgeon said that it won't stop me from having surgery, but for a while after it might get worse. Rhonda
Invictus 56 Posted April 26, 2015 Rwoods, that is good to know. I am going to try to back off on the Prilosec. I know soda makes it worse. Been trying to permanently give that up I'll be more cognizant of foods that particularly make it worse
Stephanie Stroup McIntosh 157 Posted April 26, 2015 It shouldn't stop you from getting surgery. My surgeon did an upper endoscopy to figure out if I had any acid problems. He also prescribed Protonix before the surgery and then doubled to one in the morning and one at night when I had the surgery. There is a possibility that it is caused by a hiatal hernia. If that's the case, they can fix the hernia at the same time as the surgery.
mclorrie 219 Posted April 26, 2015 I've had terrible heartburn too. My surgeon told me to take OTC Omeprazole every morning, since I started taking it, I don't have any problems with heartburn.
chunkyloverlovesyou 197 Posted April 27, 2015 Yeah I should clarify, it's bad, but manageable. I take Prilosec in morning and ratidine at night. I have a reclining bed...it's all just expensive. And yest still better than being fat
