Losing the Dream (Mcdreamy that is) haunting parallels to my life

Recommended Posts

My name is Ashley. I watched last night's Grey's Anatomy and had a haunting flashback to my own life: When I was a newlywed my husband had gotten into a serious car accident with a semi truck on the highway. I had to go to the hospital to see my semi comatose husband who had just barely survived. I had received a police escort to said hospital and had to deal with millions of thoughts going through my head. I did not know what to expect when I had gotten there. I replayed every moment we were together thinking that it was the last one I would ever have with him. I bawled pretty hard that night, just needed to let some fear and other emotions out before my surgery. The image is the aftermath of Jacob's Accident.

That was a terrible accident. How is your husband today? Did he recover completely?

He was injured a year ago in Iraq from another rollover accident prior to this one. He has some nerve damage and shrank 2 inches of his 6'7 frame due to back compression of his vertebra. He has since retired medically from the Army and receives full veteran benefits. He is now finishing his degree in Emergency Medicine. On his really bad pain days, he walks with a cane and limps a little bit. He is quite my inspiration to lose the weight (100+) pounds gained within 3 years after marriage. I want to be able to push him to be able to work out and get healthier too. He is unable to do traditional army fitness exercises or run anymore due to his injuries. I want both of us to get healthier before we start our family. PCOS is no fun at all!!! This is our engagement picture, before weight gain and accident in 2010.

Not one but 2 accidents! He is lucky to be alive. I wish you both the best of luck in the future. I will pray for the two of you.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
