Did anyone else have to do a pre pre op diet? I haven't gotten my date yet, but I am figuring if they started me on a pre op diet that I must be approved and looking at being sleeved in June. Because my BMI is a little over 50, they have me on a four week pre op diet, but they add an extra two weeks on so that you can better prepare yourself and ease your way into the actual pre op diet. So

week 1: Breakfast-Shake, Approved snack, Lunch-nothing over 300 calories/Healthy Choice meal, Approved Snack, Dinner-nothing over 300 calories/Healthy Choice meal, Approve Snack.

week 2:Breakfast-Shake, Approved Snack, Lunch-Shake, Approved Snack, Dinner-nothing over 300 calories/Healthy Choice meal, Approve Snack.

week 3,4,5,6 Full liquid Diet.

Did anyone else have to do this? I am only on day three and I feel like I am starving. I know it will get easier, its just getting through these first few days that is going to be the hardest. Adding in that I am trying to quit smoking on top of that is killing me. It has always been food or cigarettes... or both to comfort me. I just pray that the next few weeks go by fast.

I'm also on a Pre-op diet... 1 hardboiled egg for Breakfast, lean cuisine or healthy choice for lunch and dinner. Veggies and no dip for Snacks. I've been on this since Friday... I'm down 8 pounds and I've only cheated once but I put myself in a situation where I was starving and wasn't home so totally my fault. My surgery is scheduled for May 27th.

I have an 18 month old so for now I've just been running around and playing with him but I plan to incorporate exercise starting next week. The first few days SUCKED! I was quite grumpy but now it's not so bad once you get used to it. When I'm hungry I either eat a lot of veggies or have a sugar free popsicle.

I was on what my doctor calls a "liver shrinking diet" up until 2 weeks before my surgery. Basically it was Protein and veggies only. No fruit, dairy, starches or grains. Two weeks before surgery I was on a 100% liquid diet which continued for a week after surgery and then I was moved to soft foods.

My doctor doesn't do this to lower BMI or to make you lose a specific amount of weight. It's to decrease the size of your liver so that it's not in the way during surgery. Obviously since it's so restrictive you'll definitely lose weight, but she doesn't set a specific number.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
