jennylaru 6 Posted April 23, 2015 Has anyone tried carb cycling type diets after surgery? I am more than a year out, healthy, etc. Just curious if anyone has tried it and what your thoughts may be.
Miss Mac 6,262 Posted April 24, 2015 I sort of accidently have been carb cycling since I stepped up my exercise program a couple of weeks ago. Frankly, on strength training days (twice a week), I am much hungrier, and the next mornng I eat a few extra carbs, too. Instead of just having tuna salad for Breakfast, I have the tuna salad on a piece of toast and make a half sandwich. Then I might have a piece of fruit fo rmy snack along with my one ounce of cheese later. Then, for the rest of the day and the next two days, I have not been going over thirty carbs. In the last two weeks, the scale started moving again, and I have lost the seven pounds of regain that snuck back through enjoying too many carbs on a regular basis. NewSetOfCurves 1,553 Posted April 24, 2015 I upped my calories and started to carb load on my weight training days...healthy/good complex carbs, of course. My sessions are anywhere from 1:15 to 2:00 hours long (depending what body part or parts I am working out). I noticed that my fat to muscle ratio greatly improved...literally, I went from a size 10 to a 6...and I still weigh the same . I low carb it and drop the calories on my non training days...well, maybe I just go for a run .
jennylaru 6 Posted April 24, 2015 Miss Mac: how on earth do you keep your carbs under 30?! Even on my strictest days I can't come close to that! Wow! Do you guys feel like it affects your energy levels at all?
NewSetOfCurves 1,553 Posted April 24, 2015 If I drop my carbs too low, I definitely feel tired and cranky. Worse than that, I'll have little blackouts (as in, everything goes black with a bit of dizziness when I workout or get up too fast). When I up my carbs, I make sure that they are complex carbs from food sources like oatmeal and sweet potato. I will consume them primarily during the first half of the day, including simple--but natural--carbs from fruit rich in antioxidants. This way you are more likely to burn those carbs and natural simple sugars with your daily activities. My dinner is ALWAYS low carb (or close to non-existent).
Stevehud 1,790 Posted April 24, 2015 I wish I allowed myself 30 cabs, I'm lucky if i pull in 10 I try to keep it as close to zero as possible. my normal day will net me about 8 grams of carbs. a bad day is about
jennylaru 6 Posted April 24, 2015 Steve, what are you eating? Seriously! A cup of raw kale has 7g, 1/2c skim plus milk has 8g. Even 6 almonds have almost 3g. I can't imagine 8 carbs a day being possible without eliminating veggies. Are you just all meat?
