Mind hunger... How to beat it!?

Recommended Posts

To get through my bouts of head hunger, I try to access what type of head hunger I'm experiencing. Am I hungry because I'm bored? Low energy? Do I want to eat out of habit? Have I eaten high glycemic carbs in the past few hours that spiked my blood sugar and now it's crashing? Or is Frankensleeve truly empty and hungry? This just lets me track where the hunger is originating and hopefully I can avoid head hunger in the future. I'm trying to train my brain to think Protein (not carbs) when I have head hunger.

If I can't find anything to distract me or the hunger is just overwhelming, I eat pure Protein - no carbs at all, not even artificial sweeteners. Once I'm full, if I still want carbs, then I allow myself a few bites - 5 to 7 teaspoons. Normally I can't eat that many tsps, and I'm satisfied. Hope this helps.

I agree with @joatsaint. If you are losing the head hunger battle, then try to eat something high Protein. Nuts usually help me cope when I feel "snacky". I don't know how far you are out from surgery, but for me the head hunger significantly diminished over time. I still get it every once in a while, but once my body and brain finally understood that I was never going to derive the same level of "satisfaction" from food as I did pre-op, the head hunger died down a lot.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
