So I don't necessarily get meals at the "normal" schedule. I try, but it doesn't always happen.

What do you do at night, if you feel hungry and you didn't even get close to your max calories?

I had a Protein shake and had some chicken today. I tried to eat a few times, but my body just wasn't ready. Fast forward to 10pm and I am hungry.

I drank some Water. I had a hot cup of tea. I changed my activity. I still feel like I could eat a cow. I am also not normally a late night eater.

Should I eat something or not? I will probably be up for another hour or 2, but will be relatively sedentary.

Why not just eat something? I don't understand the question.

Hopefully this will help: I am on the 2-3-2 plan: I eat within 2 hours of waking. I eat every 3 hours (this helps avoid getting hungry), then I eat within 2 hours of going to bed. This plan, devised by my NUT, really helps stay me within the nutritional guidelines, while keeping me sated. What I eat later in the evening tends to be dairy, either cottage cheese, milk, or cheese sticks. Kind of a "comfort food" feel. Also, with the density of the dairy, I am totally content until Breakfast. Good luck to you!

I think the whole "night eating is bad for you" is a myth. I've always had a problem eating at night. It is only a problem IF you are going over your calorie limit or eating the wrong kind of foods. I eat around midnight 5-7 days a week. Its usually dense meat like fish or turkey sticks. Sometimes I'll eat cucumbers with vinegar if I'm near my limit for the day. I lost 100 pounds in 5 months after surgery. Fortunately, I don't think the night eating hindered my weight loss what so ever. Now, eating starchy, carbohydrate rich food right before bed or the middle of the night is a no-no. That's how I got so big in the first place. That's not to say I don't crave a piece of cake or pie in the middle of the night. I just don't make it available in my house.

I found I have to eat before going to bed. Why? I sleep eat. I didn't believe it until I brought it up at the last support group and the NUT said it's a real thing. I've found chicken bones on the kitchen counter and don't remember eating a piece of chicken. I found an empty jelly doughnut box and don't remember eating a doughnut. I have a history of sleep walking since I was a young child, so I guess it's reared it's ugly head.

P.S. The NUT is going to talk to the psychologist and see what he recommends. In the meantime, she told me to make sure I eat something before bed so I can at least control my food intact.

On Sundays I make up a double batch of my "lemon icebox pie yogurt" that I came up with and I put it in 1/2 cup containers in the fridge. When I get home from work I put one in the freezer so by the time I am ready for a snack at night, it is like icecream and by the way, I am an icecream-aholic so I had to find a way to make me think I was getting it. LOL! I top it with some Rediwhip and it is the perfect snack. About 18g Protein and 120 calories. I also quit eating a snack during the day and just eat one at night. When I reached goal, I was having a hard time maintaining while eating 2 Snacks. You have to do what works for you. By the way, if you are interested:

Lemon Icebox Pie Yogurt

2 C Plain Nonfat Greek Yogurt

1/4 C Lemon juice

2 Scoops vanilla Protein powder

10 packs Truvia

1 Box sugar free Instant Lemon pudding Mix

Mix first 4 ingredients well with mixer, add pudding mix and use mixer to blend. Will get very thick. Spoon into 1/2 cup containers. (I double the batch because I eat it for Breakfast a lot and my husband loves it too! You can also put this in a low fat graham cracker pie crust and take it to family gatherings so you will have something to eat. Noone knows it is healthy and everyone thinks it is a lemon icebox pie)

This is exactly what I do. I eat 6 "meals" or Snacks a day, 2-3 hours apart and I rarely get hungry. Even a small snack like a cheese stick or an ounce of peanuts can tide me over to my next "meal".

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
