MissLiss 71 Posted April 23, 2015 Now that I am home from that so convenient hospital bed and television mount I am not sure I can continue dozing on my back. Did anyone change to their old sleeping position right away?
Babbs 14,681 Posted April 23, 2015 I'm a stomach sleeper, so sleeping on my back was hard. As soon as I got home, I used a pillow between my legs and slept on my side/stomach the best I could. I think I was back to sleeping fully on my stomach about a week out.
Jojo2814 9 Posted April 23, 2015 I agree. I sleep on my stomach as well. I was sleeved last Tuesday by Thursday I was on my side with a pillow then gradually back to my stomach. As long as I moved slow, I found it comfortable.
TammyDTM 391 Posted April 23, 2015 I have always been a side sleeper. I slept on my side in the hospital right after I got to my room. No problems. I guess I was very lucky and my surgeon was very skilled. I did not suffer much pain at all.
LisaPunkinHead 187 Posted April 23, 2015 I slept on my back with a wedge pillow and my usual pillow. Too painful to sleep on my side for the first couple of weeks!
MissLiss 71 Posted April 23, 2015 I tried sleeping on my side which was great until i had to get myself out of bed and then I worried I was putting way too much strain on the incision sites...
KalelsWifey 318 Posted April 23, 2015 I am 12 hours out and feel incredible amounts of gas pressure. I've walked numerous times and voided... I am not sure if Ik I'm the pain bc I was laying too flat on my back and causing pressure pain the the incision sites... I didn't want to take much for pain meds, but when I received the morphine it definitely helped but I think it's just masking the pain and i'll feel it juat as much again once it ia out of my system
Jess55 97 Posted April 23, 2015 After I had lap band I think I started sleeping on my side the same night. I'm normally a side or stomach sleeper. Yes it was a bit painful, but I cannot stay asleep on my back. For some reason I'll fall asleep, but wake up like 20 minutes later when I try to sleep on my back
KalelsWifey 318 Posted April 23, 2015 Same way here. Hoping to turn off the lights and try now side sleeping see if it'll help him
MissLiss 71 Posted April 23, 2015 Actually lying on my side isn't bad especially if a tuck a pillow under..,it's the struggle to get upright again. @@KalelsWifey yes the gas was rough. I ended up with a nausea reaction after surgery and as painful as it was to have dry heaves it cleared the gas right out.
Chanel22 19 Posted April 23, 2015 I slept on my side immediately after, I'm a side sleeper normally. I had no issues.
ProudGrammy 8,322 Posted April 23, 2015 anyone change to their old sleeping position right away? @@MissLiss hospital bed was fine it was narrow, so i really wasn't "pushed" over to my side where i would hurt i can only sleep on my right side first two nights at home were terrible/miserable/uncomfortable i also used a pillow between my legs to "try" and help the situation done in vain, because i still hurt terribly the third night the pain slowly got less and less each day sweet dreams good luck kathy
cjnorris 103 Posted April 24, 2015 It won't be long and you will be back to regular sleeping positions. Just have to have patience and let your body heal.
Jb1176 79 Posted April 24, 2015 I was able to return to side sleeping about 7-8 days after surgery. I had lots of difficulty sleeping on my back especially with my CPAP nasal pillows. My mouth kept opening and thus defeating the machine. Also had to prop myself up with two pillows when on my back.
missheidi47 127 Posted April 25, 2015 I slept on my side in the hospital with no problem. A little discomfort with moving around, but really not bad. I had some gas pain too, but walking and moving around in general like getting up from the bed helped a lot with that.
