Six weeks out and not feeling restriction? Is this normal?

Recommended Posts

I was sleeved on March 10th and have great success with my weight loss. I've lost 35 pounds in the last 6 weeks and am able to start a normal diet now. However, there's only been a couple of times since I had the surgery that I have felt that "restriction" or full feeling that everyone talks about. In fact I asked my doctor at my visit a couple of weeks ago and she said don't worry, you'll start feeling full when you start eating more solid foods. Well, not really feeling it. I'm able to eat and I only stop because I know I should. I had 5 oz of lean Protein for dinner tonight with no issue at all. Has anyone else experienced this? Isn't that restriction what everyone hopes to feel? Also, my surgeon gives guidelines on what to eat, but curious how much food (meals/snacks and amounts at each) that everyone is eating. Could really use some advise. Thanks!

I am 5 months out and can eat about 3 oz of lean Protein like chicken. At 5 weeks I could eat one or two ounces. Are there any foods where you do feel the restriction?

When you have been eating do you start to hiccup or burp? I was told that for some people that is a sign that your sleeve has had enough and to stop. I don't feel the restriction all the time but I do get the hiccups and then I stop.

I hiccup too. I am struggling with the restriction too. I am on soft foods and I am about 4 weeks out. I eat a piece of string cheese I feel full, but not restricted. I ate one egg for dinner last night, again, felt full. I have been eating 2 oz of fish for lunch with a few bites of cailflower mash. Some people can eat 2 eggs and 4 oz of meat. Everyone is different. I am steadily losing weight so I guess I am fine.

I'm eight months out and I feel like I can drink fluids a little faster than I first could. I had an upper GI x-ray and the doctor told me I stretched my sleeve slightly but I'm not worried about it because I still eat like a bird and the weight is still flying off like no tomorrow. I lose roughly 10-18 pounds every four weeks with little to no problems.

I had my surgery on March 5th and have never felt restriction other than the burp or hiccup of air from my esophagus. I was very cautious as not to over eat because I did not want to experience this. I definitely can eat 4 ounces of food at a time with no problem!

I was also sleeved on March 10 th and sometimes I feel like I have too much restriction. Just a few small bites and I can feel it in my throat. If I even dare try for that 1 extra bite I will be miserable for the next hour burping it up and my chest will feel very tight. Not a pleasant feeling

I could only wish for this feeling.

I was sleeved 1 April and the only time I felt any restrictions was in the hospital. Now I feel I can just eat, but I'm trying to do good. I haven't experienced hiccups, but sometimes it feels like air trapped traveling up. Or if I haven't chewed something well enough, once I swallow it feels like rocks hitting rock bottom. Not feeling this restriction makes me constantly feel that my pouch is stretched. I hope I feel it soon.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
