June 07 Bandsters

Recommended Posts

Hello bandmates! I didn't see where we had any responses about our surgeries, pre-op, post -op, pain, ports, etc.

I'm doing well, enjoying this website. I'm on line daily checking out the site.

My day is getting closer and closer and I can't even describe how I feel. I'm excited but then I don't know I just want to get the surgery over with.

Hello mvr,

I actually started my pre-op a couple days early. I have two shakes a day, a sandwich and 1 cup of salad with lettuce, raw broccoli, and onions for my raw veggie. I cheated on Friday and had a drink and a slice of pizza for dinner. I'm back on track now.

well its alright been a week and a day and I am coming back to being normal. I have to say that I have been blessed with my recovery.

ALTHOUGH I AM HUNGRY AS HECK!!!!!! man one of my docs said that i will be on liquid for a week, then talked to the nurse and she said that my other doctor said he wanted me to be on the liquid for quite a while. I have now added Protein and yuk!!! you guys I think I got the wrong one. I got soy protein. I added it to some apple juice and ooooooo i almost threw up. I need some ideas from you guys. I know that some of you have on the other threads. other than that, i am hanging in there eating Jello, Water, broth, etc.

I don't know about adding Protein powders to other things; I haven't tried that yet. From what I've read on the board, I doubt I ever will! LOL

I buy the EAS and Atkins Protein drinks. They taste pretty good and I can get them down just fine.

Good luck to y'all!

The first protien mix I drank was soy I think I got it at GNC...I like chocolate. I mixed it in a blender with Water and ice, the colder the better for me. The second container I bought tasted so bad I couldn't drink it, no matter how cold it was. It was the same brand, I don't know if the product was mixed differently or my taste buds have changed. I now drink whey protien from a Vitamin store it's sweeter and has no after taste. I also started buying protien bars form Wal-Mart about 4 weeks after surgery. I eat them slowly and limit myself to no more than one a day. It helps because I am not always able to eat when it's time. They have about 20 grams of protien in them.

Hello all,

I'm back from surgery and doing very well. If only I could say the same about my web brouser. I have tried to get on to the other (older) June 07 website at least a dozen times in a dozen different ways. What I get is a blank white screen. I'm not sure if it is too full, or my machine is set with limitations or what. So, I'm posting and reading from here from now on because I can get to it!

My surgery was Wednesday the 13th. I was discharged from the hospital on Thursday afternoon. I've been walking alot and feeling pretty good. Minor gas pains that go away when I walk. Minor tight feeling in my abdomen. My surgeon says everything went 100% perfect, and I go back for a post op on Tuesday.

If I say so myself, I was very careful and nearly perfect in doing everything they told me to do pre-op. I'm sure that is why I'm feeling so good.

Cheers to all! Hope those of you who are on the schedule for tomorrow will have the same or better experience that I have had.

Marylou

Hi marylou. My surgery was on the 13th also. I am feeling pretty godd except some tightness round my port incision. That is the only thing really bothering me right now. Except I am craving some eggs. But I have to be on a liquid diet for 2 weeks so I can't have any. Good luck to everyone.

Tammy

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
