skinnyself 0 Posted April 22, 2015 I started my journey yesterday visiting my bariatric program manager and getting all the info for the sleeve. My family and friends won't understand and I don't really want the stress of explaining and rationalizing my decision so I've only told 2 people. One will take me to and from the hospital. For now it looks like June 12th will be the date. I've read nearly all 14k posts on here looking for a reason not to do it. There are such mixed results but the majority seem happy with the decision. Any thoughts on telling family in advance?
JamieLogical 8,713 Posted April 22, 2015 Family can be touchy. It really depends on the people involved. If you do decide to tell them ahead of time, the important thing is to stand your ground and don't let them try to dissuade you. You have made this choice for yourself. Try to approach it with a very positive outlook, instead of immediately being on the defensive. If you bowl them over with how happy and excited you are about this opportunity, they might not try to bring you down with their negative thoughts.
skinnyself 0 Posted April 22, 2015 Thanks Jamie. I think I will not tell them and hope that I won't need their support. My mother will spend the entire time sending me every article in the world where VSG went sideways. Certainly not a stressor I need. Thanks for your feedback. LilMissDiva Irene 3,282 Posted April 22, 2015 @@skinnyself I've always been a straight shooter and my family has always known this about me too. I just came out and told them. Even friends and co-workers. Almost everyone was supportive. Worried, but still supportive. I came out just fine! Good luck to you!
