Night eating

Recommended Posts

All day my eating is right on point until I put my kids to bed and me and the hubby sit and watch some tv and spend time together. Then I fall back into old habits of eating and having wine at night and it's not good. Anyone have any ideas of how to change this habit?

Depends upon what you're eating....snacking is not always a bad thing.

However, I have to watch what I eat too close to going to bed, or I will have problems.

This is quite common. And a hard one to break although some people get acid reflux at night if they eat so that helps them stop!

Suggestions.

Get healthy Snacks in.

Don't keep wine in the house.

Do something rather than sitting watching TV.

If eating late doesn't affect you, plan your daily eating so you have a really meal. Have a planned snack when the children eat, then you and DH have your meal later.

All these things assume a husband who is supportive enough to not eat/drink in front off you!

I also have this problem. I do allow an occasional glass of wine. Try to plan your evening snack. Try a small piece of cheese with a couple of crackers. Or a small dish with almonds. Or make a smoothie....1/2 cup skim milk and 1/2 cup of frozen fruit..blend in super blender z( like a Ninga) add sweetener, if needed. It's thick enough to eat with a spoon and tasty. Take up a hand craft you can do in front of tv....knitting, clipping coupons, etc. good luck....you can do it

I agree snacking isn't necessarily bad. Just plan ahead... I allot myself wine on the weekends and try to limit it to a couple of glasses.

I gave up wine recently because I wasn't losing weight. I gave up TV eating pre op when the psychologist refused to clear me for surgery until I broke that habit. If you need a snack, have one at the table before TV and like it says above, get something to do with your hands while watching tv. I've started grown up coloring books. Sounds weird, but there are some beautiful designs, and it's calming and keeps my hands busy. Good luck.

What I do now to get out of the night snacking habit in front of the TV is cut up fresh veggies put them in a bowl and for a month ate them everyday after that they bored me and stopped eating at night altogether when I feel like eating at night I remember the veggies and then I no longer feel like it.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
