Trouble with vitamins

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone, I am a month out from surgery and am finding that I'm having a ton of trouble getting my Vitamins in. Just the thought of them makes me super nauseous. I know I need to be taking them but I'm trying to figure out a way to get them all in without throwing up. Any ideas? Thank you!

After surgery, I was unable to swallow most pills. I had to cut them up or crush them. The calciums were the worst. They were horse pills. I had to crush these and mix them with a crystal light drink in order to get them down. They tasted terrible.

Around the second month I found that I regained my ability to swallow large pills and my life became dramatically easier to get the Vitamins down.

I am 23 months post op from RNY surgery and it seems like I have a very workable system so I hardly even think about it. This is what I do now. I take my Iron at night before I go to bed. This consists of my Flintstone Multivitamins and my Iron pill. (I was taking my Flintstones in the morning but my blood work showed that I became Iron deficient. Even though I was separating my Flintstones from my Calcium by time interval, I was not taking into account the calcium I was obtaining from milk.) The calciums I put in a small cup. All the other Vitamins (except those containing iron) I put in a weekly pill container separated by day.

So when I get up, I take my daily pills from the pill container. I swallow them down with Water. Lastly I take my sublingual B12 which I dissolve under my tongue. Then throughout the day whenever I think about it I swallow 2 calcium pills at a time with Water giving a 2 hour separation between sets. Then before I go to bed I take my iron pill and my Flintstones.

I got chewy Calcium online 500mg per chew. I have the Carmel flavor it's like a treat 3 times a day.

I was having a very hard time with them until I found these. Oh I am one month out. The company is Bariatric Advantage, the Protein Drinks are great too.

Good luck

I am on Bariatric Advantage. I have chocolate and Peanut Butter chocolate. I am not a fan of the shakes at all. They have a horrible after taste to me. I am also taking their multi with Iron, Probiotics and Vitamin D. I have not had any ill side effects.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
