It really depends on how far out you are from surgery and what you are eating.

I am almost 8 months post-op. I can now eat about 3-4 oz. of dense meat (chicken, pork, etc.) in a meal. If I'm eating something liquid-y... like greek yogurt, I could easily eat 6 or more oz. I eat the 5 oz. containers every day and never feel restriction with them. I also have no trouble eating a 2 oz. Protein bar in about 5 minutes.

A little more than 5 months out and I'm eating about a 1/2 cup regardless of the food. If I eat much more than that at a sitting, then I'm going to be very uncormfortable for about a 1/2 hours. On another post a few weeks ago I remember reading about listening to your body's queues, i.e. gurgling, belching, etc. It's your body's way of saying it's time to stop eating. I don't always listen to it, but I should.

Once I started on regular foods (as tolerated), the weight loss slowed considerably. I keep my calories to as close to 1000 as possible and still get in 60-100 grams of Protein. Because of the focus on Protein, the carbs stay low by default.

I want to achieve "Onederland" by Memorial Day so I've been working on refocusing my food and exercise in order to get there. There is a Memorial Day challenge started so I signed up in the hope it will keep me more motivated.

Good luck to you in your journey!!! It is a learning process.

I eat about 6 bites (the size of bite you would give a two year old) of real meat and adout 3 spears of asparagus or 3 broccoli floweretts. If I have my cheese roll ups I have 4 slices of cheese each with a piece of deli turkey and roast beef on it. Either meal it takes about 30 min to eat. If I eat 5oz yogurt I mix in a little of my Protein Powder in it and it also takes about 20-30 min. While I am at practice I normally have an Atkins snack bar and that only takes about 5 minutes.

I used to put all of my food in a 1/2c pampered chef measuring cup. But after I got used to seeing the serving size I am able to "eyeball" it on a plate. Although I still do it with Soups or things that I am unsure of. I still limit my grain carbs to lunch or before, lunch is my "biggest" meal where it is usually a 6" subway sandwich either chicken or turkey and ham. That takes me about an hour to eat it because of the bread. Most days I eat about half of that the pull the meat and veggies and eat it by itself.

Holy cow! I don't know how you manage to eat Subway bread. Just thinking about it makes my sleeve hurt! I can barely manage any bread-like thing at all. The most "bread" I've managed to eat in one sitting is about 3/4 of one slice of Pepperidge Farms Light Style Soft Wheat, which is very thin and only about 3" square. I toast it to make it a little less "spongy", but it still fills me up SO MUCH! Made myself an open-face egg "sandwich" with that a few times and that's it. I'd avoid bread for the carbs anyway, but the restriction really doesn't give me much choice.

I am just over 4 weeks out and on the pureed stage. I can do about 4 oz of yogurt, but anything else is less. Usually 2 oz.

Like I said most days I can only get about half of it then pick out the meat. I have it after I go to the gym so I am "starving" eat 1/2 then I am good.

So just a couple days after posting about eating subway and some of the bread, I can no longer tolerate it. Took two bites and had to pull off the meat. No bread for a week now my only carbs are in veggies now. I think that is a good thing because now I can get more Protein in. It must have been just a "phase".

Yeah I agree, now I make deli meat roll ups instead! I have upped my Protein over the last week and my workouts as well. Body is changing but the scale is slow. I do not mind that at all I am focused on lower body fat percentage over the number on the scale! It is a good thing when I fill the sleeves and chest of my shirt and not the belly! Hahaha.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
