When did you start to feel hunger?

Recommended Posts

I am 9 weeks post-op and just started to feel hunger. I also just started working out very hard with a trainer. When did you start to feel hungry again?

At just a few weeks. It's not the all-consuming, insatiable hunger I felt before surgery though - and it's not necessarily a bad thing if your body lets you know your tank is empty!

OTOH, sometimes thirst and acid can mimic hunger. If I feel unusual hunger, I'll sometimes pop a Tums (in case it's breakthrough acid - I'm on a PPI too, but it won't hurt anything) and drink a glass of Water to see if that takes care of it before I eat off schedule.

Working out definitely increased my hunger. I had to add a morning snack because I was getting hungry between Breakfast and lunch. When I started working out I added a reduced fat string cheese as a morning snack and some kashi Cereal or granola to my afternoon greek yogurt. By adding a little bit of carbs to my afternoon snack, I had more energy for my workouts, which I always do right after I get off work. Those small changes helped alleviate my hunger and helped fuel me through my workouts.

I'm 7.5 months out and still haven't felt any hunger. Not that I'm complaining!

I had extreme and painful hunger that started the day after surgery and lasted for several weeks, if anything my hunger is lessening as the weeks go on. I do still get hungry but it is a pretty mild feeling, nothing like the hunger I had pre surgery,

I was wondering this. I don't feel hungry yet at 4 weeks post op. my Surgeon did say that some of the hormone will grow back, but if you follow the plan with 5 small meals you will feel less hungry.

I'm 4 months post surgery and still do not have hunger. I do have a sensation in my stomach when I know I need to eat something. When I then eat some Protein it goes away. Hard to describe. Hope my hungry does not come back.

I have been feeling hunger since I woke up from surgery! That was an unpleasant surprise for me! I have to track each bite of food and constantly drink Water, tea etc to keep full.

Are you on a PPI for acid? What you describe sounds more like acid than real hunger to me.

I'm 14 days post op and thought that I was hungry after the first week. Not that I know of this is the case for you, but here is what happened to me and my crazy hunger.

I've had the starving feeling pre sleeve when I would eat and immediately feel starving so I would eat more. I honestly thought it was hormonal and a sign that it was my time of the month. I used to try to eat away the feeling since I thought it was hunger. That only made it worse! Damn hormones, so I thought. After being concerned I read the FAQ on this site for the sleeve and it said the hunger could be heart burn or indigestion. It had never dawned in me! I started taking the Pepcid my surgeon prescribed and I take Tums when I have the feeling and it goes away.i feel pretty silly that I didn't know what it was, but at least now I know!!!

That's my lightbulb moment! Hang in there - You will get through it. good luck!

I'm 4 months out and rarely experience hunger. I have to remind myself to eat most days and the times that I do get a slight pang, it doesn't take much to satisfy it.

I picked up Nexium as I hadn't been prescribed it & started taking it-and yeah I'm not hungry.. That's acid.. If I miss a day though of Nexium-it's gross.. I had acid come up my throat and up my nose when I was asleep (this wasn't an issue before) now I don't miss

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
