Artificial sweeteners?

Recommended Posts

I've seen good reviews of a Water called "Hint" which has no artificial sweeteners and has 0 calories. It's sold at Kroger stores, I've not tried it since I'm happy with Crystal Light Lemonade.

What is Hint?

You don't HAVE to use the artificial sweeteners. You can drink plain Water without adding the Crystal Lite in. That is my preference.

i use primarily for my coffee

Sweet & Low

cravings/headaches

There has been years of discussion and arguments over that very topic. I, for one, have used them most of my life with no issue. My mom used Sweet & Low in her iced tea and we only drank diet soda. ( and not in mass quantities either) Now there are more "natural" options if you want to try to avoid the purely chemical ones. Things made with Stevia or Monk Fruit.

Personally I don't get cravings from artificial sweeteners. It is only when I give in and eat things with refined sugar does my carb addiction kick in full tilt. For me the artificial stuff just makes things more palatable and gives me the taste of how I used to eat without the guilt.

I get headaches from the artificial sweeteners but sometimes I just deal with it cause it's gotta be done. I like the little squirt bottle of drink mixers. They have artificial sweeteners but taste like regular sugar and they come in many different brands/flavors.

Oh you should also check out coconut sugar, great alternative.

Have you tried Stevia? I also get migraines... and Crystal Light will set one off with just one glass of it! Artificial sweetners for some reason really trigger headaches in me, but Stevia does not. I buy Tazzo Passion fruit tea bags and steep a couple, then mix with stevia and Water for a really refreshing, tasty drink. Sometimes I add lemon too! :)

Yes I love stevia and agave for my sweeteners! I guess I just won't do sugar free Jello crystal lights or gatorades or any of the things on the diet that have artificial sugars in them.

Yes, do! It's my cheaper homemade version of Starbucks iced Passion tea :) I did okay with the sugar free Jello and sugar free Popsicles during Clear Liquids phase... I don't know if it's because we're eating such a small amount at that time or what, but now I just eat a little real sugar or Stevia when I want a treat. I just keep it to a minimum. Mostly I'm a fruit lover though when I'm craving something sweet, a smoothie made with Greek yogurt, ice, almond milk, stevia. banana, and frozen blueberries is so delish too!

Isn't the artificial sweeteners in crystal light and sugar free Jello etc.... bad for you? Don't they cause more cravings? I know they cause me to have headaches. Is there a way to do the clear liquid phase without artificial sweeteners?

. Artificial sweeteners give me headaches as well & make me nauseous.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
