Very dry face almost like eczema

Recommended Posts

Has anybody else experienced extreme dryness in their face?

My body is okay but my cheeks and forehead since surgery have become dry like crazy.

Also since surgery I just can not tolerate Water anymore whereas before surgery thats all I drank now I am on unsweetened apple juice only and drink a litre of it every day. Can you guys recommend anything for the dryness??

My face has never been dry. However, my husbands face gets very dry and flaky. I brought him some pure organic Rose hip oil and 100% pure Argan oil. He puts it on at night and alternates them. His dryness went away quickly.

You could also use a drop or two mixed into your daily moisturizer. Both of these oils are very light and absorb fairly quickly. I also use them on my hands and neck and my neck seems to be looking a little younger (I am 43)

As for the fluids; a lot of us WLS patients can not tolerate plain Water. I am one of them. Keep trying different type zero calorie water like Vitamin water or propel. Or you can try adding flavor drops to your water. It took me forever to find something to drink that I love. For me it's peach flavored propel.

Good luck!

Hormonal, I wonder? I had a super oily face pre-op and was worried that it would get even worse. Surprisingly, it went the other way and my face has gotten very dry (I need moisturizer 2-3x/day).

A lack of Water is probably the culprit here. A liter of fluids a day isn't enough. You should be getting a minimum of 64 ounces. I had a rough time getting my water in early on as well. I found it was easiest for me to drink VERY ice cold water or warm liquids. I didn't do well with room temperature water. So maybe experiment with different temperatures? I found it easier to sip, sip, sip while marching in place. I had a lot of issues with constriction in my esophagus and gurgling/burping with every sip and marching in place seemed to make that a bit better. The good news is, that only lasted about the first two weeks.

In my opinion, CeraVe cream (in the BIG tub), found at Walmart (and other places) is the best for this. They have many other products as well, including a moisturizer with sunscreen. It is very inexpensive (around $16...HUGE tub), and one application in the morning....AWESOME!!! When you wash at night, you will STILL feel it! I use it at night, as well. I am 53, and have used EVERYTHING out there over the years, and this exceeds all. I could bathe in it!!!!

Try taking Vitamin E.

I wash my face with Dove Beauty Bar and moisturize with Ponds.

You can moisturize with Coconut Oil at bedtime after you wash your face. Coconut oil is also good for removing makeup.

My skin used to be oily, my entire life. Once I had my sleeve, it got much dryer. I don't think it's related to only Water intake, I think it's also related to diet of decreased fat.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
