Hi all! I am approved for surgery and my date is scheduled for July 1st. The nurse stated that they like to do all of the preop appointments on the same day and the day before or the week before surgery. Is that normal? I wish I just had a little more time after meeting with the nutritionist to make sure I have everything but I just have to do my homework before I meet with them. Has anyone had the same thing happen?

Generally there are two types of pre-op appointments. One is a half-day training class that lays out the requirements for the program in great detail. The other is a half-day of pre-op testing to ensure that your medical issues are identified and corrected prior to surgery. Generally after the first pre-op tests, a second wave of testing is schedule with specialists in their individual fields. This second wave of testing can take well over a month to schedule. Assuming that you have no other conditions, the second wave of testing is bypassed.

Wow, I thought I had a long wait, but yours is even longer. my program requires three pre op classes/ meetings. The first was with the nutritionist and PA, they go over everything with me, review my test result and order any other required test. in my case I had to get an endoscopy. My second visit was a group visit. There were six of us, the dietician and PA went over the surgerys, pre op diet, stage 1-3 diets, and then we met with the surgeon. He reviewed the benefits and risk, then we signed our consent for treatment. My third visit is May 8. At this appointment, we do,our final weigh in, have a question answer session, and go over medications. My surgery will be May 28
