@triplethreat. We've all been there! One day you'll reread this post and smile. You may have "gotten" to 78 without the surgery, but that doesn't mean you'd be healthy or even truly living. I'm not sure where you started or where you're at now, but the level of health and energy I have now have made it all worth it. I was 53 and had a BMI of 33 when I was sleeved. High blood pressure, cholesterol, sleep apnea on a 200 pound body was eventually going to take its toll. I'm 54.and one year out now with a BMI of 23! I run or hike almost daily, wear cute clothes and am happier than ever. I don't obsess about my weight anymore, so I have time to live!

Wow, your stats almost mirror mine. It's great to hear how well you are doing. I am looking forward to all the changes.

I feel like I am hungry ALL the time! I am in the soft food stage and have no trouble eating my 800 calories. Is this normal? I guess I expected I was going to have to make myself eat and that's just not the case. I'm getting about 70 grams of Protein and 800 calories.

Thank you so much for the encouragement. I have struggled with the fear that I'll be less healthy than i am now. I want to be able to work another 5 years and still have energy to enjoy my life when not at work. Right now I'm not able to get much accomplished at home when I work. I try to envision carrying all this extra weight around as an energy sapper. You have made me believe that this is the case. i'm not as apprehensive about going through with the procedure now. On wed. I'm going to a pre-surgery seminar with others having WLS, my friends said that I'll be the thinnest person there. That's because my weight is evenly distributed, fat all over.

@beehealthy. I had no problems eating from the start other than volume. If I ate too much, it came up. Not a violent puking, just more of a hiccup to take the top off. I just needed to learn to slow down. I do struggle with a sweet tooth still, but surgery didn't fix my head. I indulge--occasionally--simply because I don't do well with total deprivation. Others can't because it's a slippery slope. I truly can eat most everything and no longer feel like I gave up enjoying food. I actually enjoy it more now because I don't feel controlled by it. That being said, I also exercise regularly and am learning to love it.

I talked to my (very fit, never been overweight) husband about my worries and he says I'm being silly. He pointed out that before surgery if I ate until full I would feel sick, whereas if I ate smaller amounts I felt better. He said that he never really eats until he's full and he's super healthy... So stomach capacity doesn't seem to be something to feel scared about. He also sent me a link to a documentary about people who eat VLC diets all the time and they were really pretty healthy (they were all elderly people).

I agree. The Pre-op diet felt so familiar because I had used shakes to lose weight in the past. It felt like post traumatic stress, reliving ghost diets and feeling that constant hunger. I don't know how I did it. I am grateful that I will never have to do that again! Just take it a day at a time and give yourself little cheats to get by.

Did anyone with 28-32 BMI have problems with loose skin or hair loss?

I'm hoping that needing to lose less weight will mean no excess skin or Hair loss.

I went into surgery with a 30 BMI and am 51. I don't think I am going to have saggy skin. Was sleeved 7/5/16 so am only a few weeks out. I weighed 187 on that day and am 179 today. The weight loss is slower than those with a high BMI. Bottom line, I would prefer losing the weight and having extra skin than remaining obese. So far, my skin looks great. My highest weight was 215.

I also went to Tijuana. Dr. Ortiz. The only problems I had was identifying what the gas sensation was. It felt like tightness in my chest. Also, just being straight up bored at the Marriott. We finally discovered the pool and spent time reading in the shade. Everyone is very nice an helpful. You will quickly meet others that are having or just had the procedure.

I was 53 and was my highest BMI of 33 (200 pounds). I gained weight all over so I was hoping for no loose skin. Nope. It's definitely not tight by the time I shrunk to 136 (23 BMI). No bikini in my future! Younger and lower BMI patients might be luckier. I'm not sagging enough for plastics, but skin isn't tight.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
