What did you guys do for a pre op diet? Obviously we can't do liquids for 2 weeks we would loose to much! We need to shrink our livers before surgery I know. My Dr said just do liquid and laxative 2 days prior to surgery. I'm scared this isn't enough though???? What did you guys do???

I did 2 weeks of 40 grams or less of carbs everyday. Wasn't hard at all but I did lose 10 lbs in two weeks and my liver was fine.

I just worry because 2 years ago I had a CT for a kidney stone and it showed a fatty liver :( I'm worried about that!

story of my life!!! I used to get asked if i was preggers all the time as well bc i have the same body shape...i would cry whenever someone would ask me. I started telling people "no im fat" and they would get so embarassed...people have no shame!

I didn't have to do a pre surgery diet either bc weight was low so they didn't require it.

Yes that's why I'm not telling people I don't want to hear the your not fat speeches! I am or I wouldn't get asked if I'm pregnant all the time lol!!! I carry my weight in my boobs and tummy! I'm a classic apple with little legs and arms :( My face is getting big now and my head changed shape and that is my final straw!! I don't recognize myself anymore I'm 5'7 and about 205-210. I can work my butt off for months in the gym with clean eating and get down to 185 ish but can never maintain it! I have to work out 2 hours a day cardio and weights and eat 500-800 calories only a day to get there:( Which isn't realistic for anyone to keep at when I work 50 hours a week (4 12 hour shifts as a RN) The struggle is real! I can't wait to get to Tijuana get this done and begin a new way of eating and living!

@@bluesclues it upsets me to very much. A actual labor and deliver nurse asked me a few week back by saying "now I know you didn't swallow a watermelon". I looked at her looked at my stomach and very dryly said nope, "I'm just fat"........then I added "I'm going to go stick my finger down my throat now". People are so rude I would never ever ever ask anyone who wasn't a obvious 9 month about being pregnant... I actually did once in college kinda asked a girl in my class. She looked so pregnant with a giant round firm belly and asked her if the stink in our class from whatever we were doing made her sick. She said why would it??? Then I picked up she wasn't pregnant. Now even if they are huge as a house I keep my mouth shut bc I know how it feels.

Hi! I'm just starting my research and viewing a webinar with a local bariatric group tonight. I got my first "when are you due?" last week from someone I hadn't seen in 2 years. Honestly I think saying back to her "nope..just fat" was a big lightbulb moment for me. That same day I looked up my insurance plan to see what was covered and discovered that my BMI just qualifies me since I have co-morbidities. My PCP has been on me for years to lose weight and I've been on the same roller coaster for 10 years of trying every pill, diet, exercise fad, etc.

Will be anxious to see how you do since I'm also starting with a lower BMI.

Best of luck!!

Good luck to you also! Yup it's definitely a moment of enlightenment when you realize your stomach has so much extra weight on it you look pregnant!!! It's also good therapy I feel to share this with others on this site. I've never talked about it with anyone before out of shame and embarrassment! I always cry and even though I have mentioned it to my mom a little I never shared the full devastation in my soul then people think I'm pregnant and I know it's because I've let myself go to such a extent! It's the worst feeling ever! Definitely keep up with me message me anytime I've having mine June 8th in Mexico!!! I can't wait! Good luck

Starting BMI 34/201lbs, so had to self pay (my bathroom remodel can wait) still happy with decision. Exercise is really key to all of this, Protein and Water. In 2.5 wks have lost 16 lbs. got on scale today, better than any loss I have had before. As long as I stay on track and hopefully continue 2lbs (if lucky 3 a week) would be fantastic!

Best to you all…either way it's all going in the right direction. HAPPY

My BMI was 35 when I got mine done 4/16. I was also self-pay.

In the 6 days since, I have lost 15 lbs (207-192). It will probably slow soon (and stall out for a while around week 3), but I already feel so much lighter.

I am really glad I got it done now and did not wait until my BMI was 40+. I have been fighting weight gain my entire life and since I turned 40 I was losing the battle. I have no doubt I would have gotten there.

BMI of 29 and went for it, sick of being fat my whole life. The one and only negative I have is the 24/7 GERD. It's not all roses, but much easier to lose weight

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
