Are there any other support groups in the southern Maryland area other than ST Mary's? My doc requires 5 support group meetings before surgery

I know Washington hospital center has them the first Saturday of each month in DC. Idk if that's just for their patients though.

I am in north east Baltimore, and had surgery at GBMC with Dr. Bello in February. I can't say enough good things about Dr. Dovec and Dr. Bello and the whole comprehensive obesity program at GBMC.

Annapolis has support group meetings. Anne Arundel Medical Center. Not sure that's any better for you though.

I am going to GBMC now. I just had my second visit earlier this month. I also have my psych exam scheduled for May 10. I'm extremely excited

HI, I'm Tammy I live in pg county and I just started my pre op diet today. I'm going to be sleeved on May 11. Maybe some of us other pg county folks can get together and support each other.

Well I am sleeved! The surgery went well. I had major issues with nausea. The meds at first were not giving me relief, but they ended up putting a patch on and that made a difference.

The pain is pretty tolerable so no real issues in fact I did not come home with the pump. Really only one incision is sore. The other ones I hardly even feel. I am finding out my heating pad is very comforting and soothing.

After surgery getting up walking really helps to wake your system and get the gas moving. I also found that someone running my back ( like a baby) helped with the gas.

Overall I am doing fine.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
