While Watching "The 627 pound Woman"...

Recommended Posts

I had an epiphany...

All day yesterday, I was feeling kinda low. Thinking about how far I had to go, and took in too many calories too...which left me even more depressed (In bandster hell, healing phase, right now). I just kept wondering if I would really ever make it to goal and wondering when I would actually feel restriction and get this "show on the road"...losing weight right now is SUCH a chore! I am essentially on a diet until I get restriction...and WHO KNOWS how many fills that will take!

OK...so anyway...my 16 year old daughter and I were watching "The 627 pound Woman" on Discovery Health last night. That poor, sweet lady! My heart broke for her! And that's when the epiphany came to me...."That woman would LOVE to be where I am right now! She would feel WONDERFUL if she had the stamina, mobility, ability, wardrobe, and life that I have right this moment!" Needless to say, I stopped feeling sorry for myself at that moment and today am more committed than ever to make this work for me!

So, I wrote all of this to encourage all of you that are feeling low. No matter how large you feel you are, there is most likely someone larger and in worse shape that would look at you and think to themselves "I'd love to be where he/she is right now!"

Hang tough everyone! :(

I watched that show too. Wasn't it great how the EMT guys treated her so well while movingher from home to hospital?

Did you happen to catch the "Half Ton Man" after that show?

I didn't watch the half ton man. My husband gets VERY upset by those programs, but like you Derek, he know's that's his future without the band. He's 435-445 now. His denial is currently in appeals and we're hoping it will be approved and he'll be banded in August. Programs like that do two things for me...1) make me grateful that I have my band and am taking control before I get to that point, 2) make me want to keep moving and eating right and win this battle!

I also watched the show last night. I couldn't watch the graphic surgery stuff but watched about Jackies life. I was great how well everyone treated her. It just reminded me why I got this band after all.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
