Before booking with certain doctors in Tijuana, please do your research on them! Whether it be on here or other informative websites. If you type their name in google and a bunch of complication stories pop up... Helloooooo lol might be a red flag. Here's a brief story of one of my friends that went with a surgeon without researching and he deeply regrets his decision. There are too many good ones in Tijuana to go with one that does as many people as he can squeeze in. How do they even have time to clean the OR in between patients? Hmmm.

From Steve:

If I would have a researched and done my new due diligence I would not have went to Dr. Almanza, just for the sheer fact of the quantity of patients he takes a day! However, those who know me know I'm very impatient! I decided to get the surgery so I found a doctor scheduled my surgery, booked my flight and flew out of here! The worst decision of my entire life is not doing research! And to think, every other aspect in my life I research the heck out of! I honestly thought this procedure was no big deal, everybody gets it done!

I am amazed to know after my ordeal there are people out there that would consider him after reading my story. Let's say for one minute that he only did this once and it was to me. Just the fact Dr. Almanza never returned any of my phone calls, never returned any of my surgeons phone calls, never returned one single phone call that alone would make me run like hell!

I am a very fair, honest, logical and sensible guy! If Dr. Almanza did the right thing - I guarantee you I would not be discussing him right now! If he followed up, helped my physicians, sent surgical notes or if he did anything to assist me, I guarantee you I would not say bad things about him.

I cannot believe I did not even get one single fucking phone call! We needed him so bad, you guys have no idea!

I agree that it is reckless to cut corners with your health by not doing proper research. How anyone makes a decision THIS BIG without researching every aspect of it is beyond me! I did a TON of research when deciding whether to have surgery then a ton MORE research when choosing a surgeon. We are talking about your LIFE here, people! Take the time to get it right!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
