Do you regret surgery?

Recommended Posts

I posed-that same question to others before surgery! I am happy to report based on my own experience... No regrets.

No. For.me sleeve was what I always hoped the band would be but wasn't.

I have no regrets. I liked my band, but it had too many complications for me. With the sleeve I actually feel full and am no longer consumed about eating.

No regrets. I feel great. I wish I would have done it 10 years ago.

Yes, only one major one, not having this life changing surgery a few years ago.

Congratulations on your upcoming surgery.

Nope none at all. Wish they had this as an option back when I did the band. I hated the band never lost much weight and had a lot of issues. The sleeve has been amazing. I feel full a lot sooner. I don't vomit at all like I did when I had the band. I have never been this size in my adult life. It makes it much easier to make the right choices because I can have a small salad or a banana and actually be full on that. No regrets. Just happiness.

Like everyone above, i do not regret having the sleeve. I had a pouch form above the band, so in essence i was growing another stomach! I would have days where i had no restriction at all, then other days where everything would get "stuck" and i would have to run for dear life to the bathroom. Having the sleeve has been amazing, i have the restriction i need, but i don't feel the need to run to the bathroom after every meal! It's just so much easier, and it allows me to really enjoy life for what it is :)

Wishing you all the best with your weight loss journey xox

I was wondering the same thing. I go for my first consultation tomorrow. Very nervous!!! Is it worth the risk?Worried, if I'll have the energy to keep with with 3 kids, how will this affect my marriage, how long will it take to recover, will I really have to be out of work for 2 - 4 weeks, what if something goes wrong??? So many questions, it's overwhelming but I'm tired of holding my head down in shame because of my weight. When my husband and I started dated I was around 130. I've almost doubled that weight. I weigh more today than I did at 9 month pregnant. I'm sick of yo-yoing, losing 30, gaining 50. Ive probably lost 300 hundred pounds, only to gain what feels like 500 back over the years. Praying I make the right decision and thankful for this site and the everyone's willingness to share.

Being out and about. Its all my nerves!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
