2 wks Post-Hard to eat! Feeling weak & shaky

Recommended Posts

I was sleeved April 6th and by God I'm having a terrible time getting in all my supplements and Protein rich food. I've been on Clear Liquids for 2 weeks and supposed to start FULL liquids this Monday, however in a desperate attempt to get protein and calories in, I started it today. I'm feeling weak and afraid to get in the shower because last time I did I almost fainted. This morning when I woke up I noticed my hands were trembling slightly. A few wks preop my hemoglobin was only 8.9. I was severely Iron deficient. I took

Iron and it went up to 10.6 just pre-op. Wondering if I'm more anemic now or if it's lack of protein, calories or an electrolyte imbalance. Anyone feel this 2 wks post op?

You should call your sugeons office asap and speak with a nurse. There are several possible reasons for your weakness. In the meantime, it wouldn't hurt to drink some G2 and eat some pureed fruit and cream Soups.

I hope you have someone home with you...

I was pretty much the same as you at that point. Have you tried using Water Enhancer drops in your Water to get in your fluids? You could try using those same drops with unflavored Protein Powder in your water for the Protein if shakes are intolerable. You can also use that same powder in broth and Soups for extra protein. How are you with thin scrambled eggs? Lots of protein there. Also add protein powder to milk, and/or dry milk powder to regular milk (I used this ALOT). Are you able to get down yogurt? Stir in a little protein powder in it, or dry milk powder. It DOES get better, just try not to overdo. All the best to you....

The more Protein Shakes you start drinking, the better you will start feeling. My surgeon only had me do clear liquids for 2 days, once I started drinking my Protein shakes, I felt like a wilted flower coming back to life

I felt like this yesterday, my husband checked my BP and it was low, as well as my heart rate. So sipped on some beef broth and felt much better in a half hour. The salt helped I think. Drank some pedialyte too.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
