Am I eating to much

Recommended Posts

I'm 4.5 months out I've lost 70lbs since surgery and total of 110lbs since I've started the program a year ago. I'm very happy but very scared of going back.

Typical day

5 oz low fat yogurt with my crushed medicine.

Protein Shake about hour later.

This is where I'm worried lunch I eat 6-8 oz low fat cottage cheese.

I get my Water and at least 2-3 Protein Shakes that's not my worry.

dinner 3/4 cup fish/chicken with salad. I'll sometimes swap lunch and dinner ,but the fact that I can eat 8 oz cottage cheese worries me.

In between meals I'll sometimes eat a banana 3/4 of one.

I've done this with minimal exercise plan on changing this very soon as weather gets better.

Just very worried I can eat so much without sickness.

None of that sounds like it is bad to me. Cottage cheese is kind of wet and gloopy, so it isn't as dense as like chicken or meat, so it potentially slides through your sleeve more quickly, which is why you can eat more of it. Either way, can you imagine before your surgery eating a day like the day you described and not being starving?

I am now 1 year and 7 months out and there are days where everything makes me sick and I eat next to nothing and days where I'm like, holy cow, I was SUCH a pig today! Except being a pig is like 1400 calories at the absolute most. The best way for me to monitor my weight has been to track my calories. If suddenly I realize that I am eating more calories, then I can go back and check out where my issue is, but as long as I am under a set amount, which is 1000-1200 for me a day, then I try not to worry if I somehow ate an entire half of a chicken sandwich all in one meal (which was my most recent- "omg did I break my sleeve" concern).

That seems like a reasonable amount to me. Maybe checking in with your nutritionist may help calm your fears.

Hey, Chris, you appear to be doing fine - great, even! The thing I wander about is why are you still crushing your meds? I was told I could take whole pills at 8 weeks out. Now, I know every doctor has a different plan for each of us, but I'm wondering if you are getting the full benefit from the crushed meds, as opposed to whole meds (which may be time-released). If you haven't yet, ask your doctor if it's now ok to take your meds whole (and avoid the nasty crushed taste!!!). Good luck to you!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
