First fill tomorrow

Recommended Posts

Way to go, Deb! After over two months, you're probably ready -- although some bandsters can go for ages without a fill. Let us know how it goes.

Thanks for the support. It went just fine. I actually felt the port under my skin for the first time afterwards. I am on liquids only for 24 hours and can really feel the restriction. It took me forever to get a Protein Shake down this morning.

Hi Deb!!

It was great meeting you the other night, and now I really want to hear how your fill went. Please come and post and let us know!!

And did you have to register at the outpatient department before going to radiology? The last two times I've gone, I wait in the OP waiting room only to be told that I didn't have to. What was your experience?

Hope you're having a good day and that everything was easy-peasy.

(BTW, I went to the new-member meeting last night and spoke to the audience. It was cool!! There aren't a whole lot of bandster-wannabes at these meetings but those who do want it are very, very interested. I hope a couple of them will come here.)

Hi Alex,

It went great. I ran into Dr. Abkin on the way from the parking lot & he told me to go Radiology. I did & it was right.

I can feel the difference. It took me forever to drink a Protein shake this morning. I had a little chicken salad for lunch- it went down fine and I'm full.

I hope some of the would-be bandsters do come. I am so pleased with my decision even though I was committed to the by-pass when I went to my first appointment. The permanency & malabsorption spooked me. I feel much better with the band. It helps me with the Portion Control I need without the rest of it.

I just love the support group. I get really good info there.

Deb

Deb.....It was the best decision of my whole life and I am so glad I decided to have the surgery. It is awesome with portion control...!!! It's a great TOOL!!!

Question - I see the doc on Nov. 8th and he is going to ask if I think I need a fill....how do you know? I think I might need one cuz I don't get full as fast....and can probably eat more. I usually stop when I "think" I've had enough! Is that how it should be? If I was banded on 9/24, is it too soon?

I know it's only 1/2 cc usually; but what do you think?

N*

My doctor will not do a fill until 6 weeks post surgery so it may be a little soon for you. I knew I needed it because 1) my weight plateaued for a couple of weeks, and 2) I could eat a lot more than recommended without any resistance. As to the cc. of fill, I was warned not to even ask the doctor! It depends totally on what is right for you.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
