Traveling at 6wks out.

Recommended Posts

I am still pre-op but I will be traveling on a family vacation about 6 wks after surgey. Wondering how the average person is feeling 6 wks out from rny?

I flew 3 days after rny had lots of layovers and stuff. Was tired at the end of the day but not horribly painful. I 3 weeks out now. And I feel really good. I think you should be great 6 weeks out.

you'll be fine. I traveled 22 hrs to get back and was out about 6 weeks as well. Make sure you have Protein powder in baggies, Blender Bottle, Protein Bars, empty Water bottle (to fill up on the plane)

I'm not sure if you said you are traveling by plane or not, but I found ordering a diabetic meal (am diabetic as well) was a LOT better than eating the normal food because i had more Protein and less carbs/bread like the chicken piece was a lot bigger and there was fruit instead of dessert etc.

i found its easy at airports as well, can find chicken caesar salad anywhere and etc.....safe travels!

We will be driving (only a couple of hrs) to cape cod. We rent a house so meal prep should be fine bc I can bring whatever I need. I was more concerned about pain or being tired still. We will be putting in a lot of beach time but I am hoping I can still ride my bike on the bike trail and do plenty of walking.

I was headed back to work at 6 weeks, would have much rather been going on vacation!! :)

I was feeling great at that point. I actually could have gone back sooner but I liked having the extra time off to adjust to my life and everything.

The fact that you are driving only a couple of hours and staying in house, you will do great. Just be prepared with all the stuff you will need and ENJOY your vacation!! Keep moving while you are there, it really makes you feel better.

Good Luck with your journey!!

Good question! I'm having rny surgery on May 27th and am planning a mini vacation the end of July so I think that's about 7-8 weeks out. I was wondering how I'll do with walking around an amusement park. Anyone do amusement parks after surgery??

It is very individual. I am 7 weeks and would be fine on a " relaxing" vacation but not one where I would be on the go. I am also 4 months out from hip replacement surgery so I had a double whammy.

At 6 weeks you will be great for traveling. I was back at work after a week. Just take all of your shakes and food stuffs with you. At 6 weeks you will still be on the soft food diet so if you go out you will need to eat Soup or a soft meat. Good luck.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
