What did I wait for?

Recommended Posts

Hello I am new to this site. Just wanted to put my story out there, in hopes of encouraging someone who is as big a chicken as I am. I went through the whole preop test, appointments, classes, physchological eval, EVERYTHING... two years ago. Insurance approved, was scheduled for surgery, then backed out. I just couldn't do it! I really worried about post op pain and getting back to feeling well.

Well, after I backed out. Things never got any better. I was so disgusted with myself. The weight was really getting to me, my back, my legs, my overall well being, so I decided to try again. I went to a different doctor and had to go through everything all over. Of course it took a lot of convincing to get my husband back on track. Well, I had a wonderful doctor. (Dr. Aaron Hoffman at Buffalo General Hospital) I am 9 days post op. I had my gastric sleeve surgery on 4/9/15. Now I wonder why I waited so long. On my post op appointment 4/14/15 I asked Dr. Hoffman if I could hug him, and I did. So happy to start this journey and shed these unwanted pounds.

Goody for you. You may be in some discomfort now, but you will feel better soon. I am 15 months out and feel soooooo much better. I wish I could have done this sooner. Congratulations.

Change nerves into excitement, for this is seriously one of the most exciting things you could ever do for yourself! (but a few nerves are ok!) Good luck to you!

Wow I needed to see this post. I just backed out of my gb surgery yesterday. I had a nervous breakdown at the hospital and decided to not go threw with it. I'm happy to know I'm not the only one and that maybe like you I will find the courage to do this...

@@Bellaloly74 I really hope you don't wait as long as I did. I don't know if your fears were like mine. I am in the health care field. I know the risks and was very familiar with the surgery before I started the process. I really hope you reconsider before you have to repeat the entire process, like I did. Good luck and I hope you keep me posted. Sooooo Happy to be 10 days post op.

I did the same exact thing last year. Tests, got a date, pre op diet then backed out. Like you, nothing has gotten better so I called my surgeon. Luckily I didn't have to re do my testing because it's been within the same yr. hopefully I do not chicken out again :( doesn't help that I suffer from anxiety/panic disorder. Just got my approval letter, again. Waiting for my date. Glad everything went ok!! Congrats!!

Yes I am in the field. Which makes it worse because we know too much of the risk and possible complications. That is what I think made me back out. I couldn't get it out of my head. Just kept thinking about all the bad. I lost my focus. :(

@SimplySharon I wish I could give you some courage. 11 days post op and I am soooo happy I had the courage to go through with it. I am already feeling like this was the best thing I could ever do for myself. I have just added years to my life!

Please let me know when you have a date. I will keep you in prayer! Best of luck!

Good luck to all of you in the pre op stage. It does take courage to go through with this surgery.

However, I think you will find that the majority of us regret not having done it sooner. It is a life changer. I am thankful everyday for the second chance that weight loss surgery gave me.

I understand about wanting to back out. I was so nervous the night before my surgery that if I didn't work at the hospital where I was having it done- I probably would have chickened out too. However, I am a nursing administrator at my hospital and everyone knew I was coming in to have it done. I probably had almost a hundred people cone check on me during my stay. It was a real party in my room. So I think I was more scared of having to face everyone if I cancelled. LOL

Just remember there are complications, but they are rare. Hang in there and before you know it your new life will begin :)

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
