Cardio/strength training

Recommended Posts

Getting a feeling of what kind of exercise you are doing post WLS.

I do 15-20 minutes cardio to get HR in fat burning mode. Then go to weight resistance machines for arms, legs, abs. Then I do functional movements like squats, planks and step ups. So I'm focusing on toning and building muscle in the gym and letting my calorie reduction be my weight loss.

What are your exercise routines? (

12 weeks and 49 lbs gone forever!)

To keep moving as much as possible. I do aquafit 5 - 6 days a week. The instructors all focus on different areas and have different styles. Mon - Is a very vigorous aerobics style class. Lots of activities designed to get the heart rate up, with 30 second rest periods in between. Tues/Thurs is more strength training using light Water weight >15lbs. Wed/Fri is more high intensity aerobics and Saturday would best be described as aerobics/zomba. Sunday is my day off. I also add in bike riding 1 -2 times a week and kettleball at home on Tues/Thurs.

I have arthritis in both knees so I can't do anything high impact.

An average of about 40 min of cardio 7 days a week (treadmill, elliptical, hiking). I have a desk job. So, I make sure I get the cardio in. Weight machines for about 40 mins 3 or 4 days a week. Including the 6 months prior to surgery, I have lost 110 lbs as of this morning. Life is great!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
