Soo I'm scheduled for surgery on the 23rd just 5 days away not counting surgery day! And a friend and I are doing it together, same doc and hospital...only thing is I was scheduled first, at least a month ago hospital arrival at 5:30 am surgery 7:30... My friend calls me up yesterday and says her surgery time is 7:30.. As well and Arrival 5:30. I questioned it thought she was pulling my leg... Now normally I wouldn't freak out.. But I am since this whole process has taken me 5 freaking years (plus I'm starving).....this is probably no big deal but I don't want the chance for any slip up to happen. Is this normal and should j just call and talk to the nurse to make sure that it's normal... I know I know. ????????????

You might want to call just to ease your mind. It could be nothing more than a scheduling issue.

If it was me, I'd want to check just to make sure. No point getting to the big day and it turning out to be an issue.

It's not like the surgeon just blows in and does a quick 15 minute procedure so they can line a few of you up, ready to go. Bit strange.

Mine was an assembly line, there were 5 people at the same time. They prep you for surgery, and the cutting begins. One after the other. It was Mexico though....

Even state side it's possible. 2OR's next to each other. Surgery done by laparoscopic robot, residents to close. If there are no complications the surgery only take ~45 minutes. The rest is prep time and time spent in recovery.

When I had my surgery, the person ahead of me actually backed out at the last minute, so I was rushed in immediately. I think they have a lot of cancelations, for whatever reason, and having a backlog helps minimize costs.

Thanks so much for responding... I'm feeling a tad better .. My Surgeon is quite popular here in California... Certainly hard to get an appointment with him and there was a waiting list.. So now that I'm in .. I'm in you know.. I will try not to stress so much it's all in gods hands and he is in control he wouldn't get me this far and then something so minor like schedule conflicts messes it up . I'll just keep praying and trust that Thursday goes well

I relaxed a bit and didn't call the nurse or my surgeons office to confirm.. Well it's the day before surgery and I just received a phone call from the administrative liaison from the hospital my surgery has been moved to 8:30 am instead of 7:30 am so arrival time will be 6:30 ... I immediately recognized the telephone number from the hospital and my heart did a flutter. I'm so used to disappointment, but she said relax it hasn't been cxld ... So anyway turns out I was really double booked and I'm pissed that my friend got my slot by mistake when my spot has been confirmed for well over 30 days. How the fudge did that happen ... Anyway everything happens for a reason and I'm so glad tomorrow is surgery day!! Finally ------- ????

My experience is that surgeons tell all their cases the earliest possible time, so that people are mentally prepared for a super early morning arrival. Then - right when they know who and what their lineup truly is, their office calls & firmly schedules the most elderly or infirm people first (since everyone will be fasting and a little weak and dehydrated).

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
