TMI - Forgive me...Bowel Movement

Recommended Posts

My surgery was on Monday. Since then I've had two bowel movements on Tuesday due to medicine from my surgeon but nothing sense. I have been adding Miralax to almost everything the past two days but no luck. No gas, no movement, nothing. Is this normal or how long should I let this go? Thanks.

I don't think I went to the bathroom for the 1st week following surgery. I wasn't eating anything substantial and I hadn't eaten since the night before surgery. If you're like me, then your system is used to handling thousands of calories a day and there's plenty of room in your intestines. Since I wasn't taking in anything but liquids for days and days, there just wasn't anything to come out the other end. :-P

Are you still taking something? My surgeon had me on a stool softener for the first 30 days post-op. I poo'd on my 3rd day home (5 days post-op) and have been regular every since. I would nip this in the bud now and call the doctor for a stool softener prescription.

Marbelsvg...A daily double dose of MiraLAX is the only thing given or suggested by the surgeon to this point. I don't feel any discomfort yet but also don't want this to get out of hand either.

I don't think I went for awhile because I was on only liquids the first couple of weeks. I think you'll be able to go once you include proper food. Now I add benefiber to my shakes/drinks to make sure I go regularly and having Fiber as well.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
