joe7777 1 Posted June 14, 2007 Well...looks like our dollar is climbing...wooooo, time to go to the us (not really) for surgery and take advantage of the exchange rate!
joe7777 1 Posted June 14, 2007 This is for every time ive heard a stupid ignorant american comment about our money being monopoly money, blablabla...well first of all...most countries have coloured money, it's a better system. Second, our money is one of the safest in the world against counterfit.
Gaffer 1 Posted June 14, 2007 I love it. I wholesale jewelry and other goods from the states. It should save me $3-4k in the coming months. I am also planning to go to the states to get some tires for the wife's truck and I gotta buy some clothes while I am down there. My closet is getting pretty limited these days. Even my damn underwear are too big. I am hoping that we are at par in the fall, but I will take what I can get especially when you look at where we were last fall. Wheezy 0 Posted June 17, 2007 There's a negative side to the US dollor. The lower it goes the more it cost them to have industry here in Canada. We just lost a large company that hired 1000 people and they paid decent wages.
susieq321 31 Posted June 18, 2007 I hate it... i have worked in the US for years and i can't tell you how much better it was when my salary was almost doubled with our dollar... but on a bigger note the strong dollar does hurt our economy and the imports to the US we are losing out as their largest trading partner to China more and more this year and last.. but I understand the temptation to shop
Yoda 0 Posted June 18, 2007 ....we can never win, eh? This is also causing our interest rates to rise up!!! :phanvan
Doddie63 6 Posted June 18, 2007 robgoblin. Hate to upset your idea about our money, but Canadian money is just as easy to counterfeit as American. Before the new twenty was out, the low life had already found out how to bypass the security. Ask anyone working in law enforcement. Doddie
Donna D 1 Posted June 18, 2007 I just got $1000. US dollars and it only cost me an extra 63 Canadian. I couldn't pass it up. It is for winter holiday travel if I can still afford to go after this band....
Gaffer 1 Posted June 18, 2007 ....we can never win, eh? This is also causing our interest rates to rise up!!! :phanvan I tend not to worry about it as there is little or nothing I can do about it. I just take the good with the bad. Andrew
Doddie63 6 Posted June 19, 2007 Where are you planning to go Donna D.
Donna D 1 Posted June 19, 2007 Who knows. I know every country accepts it and it was just to good an exchange to pass up.
Doddie63 6 Posted June 19, 2007 Donna D: Great idea. A few years back, on a holiday, I talked to someone who keeps an American Bank account. When he travels if he needs cash he just withdraws from the American Bank that way he isn't troubled by the flucuation of the dollar. Also, as you said American money is accepted anywhere. Strange how some people are down on Americans, but they are quick to accept their money and goods. I have seen some posts on this site that are very rude to Americans while waving the Canadian Flag and I am ashamed. We have jerks in both countries and just because the politicians are jerks is no reason to get down on a people. I have travelled most of the world and all of America and have found the Americans to be very warm wonderful people. Doddie
Yoda 0 Posted June 19, 2007 Actually, there are a few places that do not accept American money (Cuba is one example).
Doddie63 6 Posted June 19, 2007 cuba gov't maybe but not the citizens. It is a hot commodity
Donna D 1 Posted June 20, 2007 I agree. Americans have there good and bad as we do. Have you ever gone on their pages of lapband. They are very friendly and very willing to help. They don't care where you come from. I have never been questioned about where I'm from. They have some great pages there too, ie: scar stages and Plastic surgery stuff.
