lisaanewme67 123 Posted April 19, 2015 Thanks, I kniw for sure that the snoring is associated with my weight. I'm 100% positive it will go away after surgery. I appreciate you sharing your story. Continued strength!
lisaanewme67 123 Posted April 22, 2015 Today I received the letter from my Bariatric Team. As it turns out, I do have to have the sleep study but THANKFULLY nothing else is required. I initially scheduled the sleep study for June 12th on last friday after I had a heads up that my surgeon may require one. However, I called this morning and was able to catch a cancellation for this Monday, April 27th...Yippie!!! If I don't have sleep apena, all I need to do is attend the PREP group. The Preoperative Readiness Education Program (PREP) group is a one-time skills group. The purpose of this group is to discuss ways to successfully maintain long-term weight loss. A combination of activities and lecture is also given. It is a 3 hour group. After that, I should be able to schedule my surgery. BUT the sleep study shows that I do have sleep apena, I will be given a CPAP machine and will need to maintain a log for 30-days before scheduling surgery... Praying not to have sleep apnea!!! I'm totally okay with having the sleep study NOW. After reading everyone responses I realize that if this is the only testing that my surgeon is requiring, I am truly blessed and am okay with that. Plus, I need to know if I have sleep Apnea because this process is all about taking care of me!!! Happy Journey to us ALL!!! Thanks for the support as always... tiggerbug 70 Posted April 24, 2015 (edited) I actually just met with my "team" last Wednesday.... sounds much like yours right down to me working in the hospital that I will have surgery in. my main concern with that part is I work in the OR so pretty much everyone will know I'm there and I'm not sure I like that but its the only way I can do it. I also got an email saying I have to have a sleep study which concerns me because I mostly sleep in a recliner because of my back and I know the sleep studies are laying in a bed so I'm not sure how well that will go. then I have a list of other things to do as well. can anyone give me a time frame of how long all the "pre-op" can take??? lisaanewme67 123 Posted April 24, 2015 @@tiggerbug it is rough whenyou work where you receive your care. I am dealing with the same thing as I work in surgery and work closely with the General Surgery Team. But as you said.. Oh well, I am working to better my life, be healthy and happy and can't worry about who know's what. Honestly, why would people want to risk their job gossiping about someone elses health care? Hopefully, if you do well with and no issues (insurance, test results or have to do a nutrition plan) it should go pretty quickly. Also, my sleep study is Monday night and my instructions read that if a person has special needs (sleep in a recliner) it can be accommodated. Just talk to the person who sets up your appointment about that and they should be able to make that happen. Keep me posted though and we will Stay Strong!! lisaanewme67 123 Posted April 24, 2015 I was contacted by my surgeons office and told that I am done with all of requirements. When I have my sleep study on Monday, April 27th and if I am diagnosed with sleep apnea all I will get is a cpap machine or any treatment that is recommended. I don't need to keep a log for 30days and wait for a surgery date. I was previously told this by an intake coordinator at my surgeon's office. I will have my PREP 3-hr Session in June (Prep only scheduled 1nce a month) then surgery. I may be able to go to Prep in May. I am to call her office the first week in May to see if there are any cancellations. This is wonderful NEWS!!! Surgery is closer than ever I am so happy that I am in the clear. Excited to feel better inside and outside. I am literally walking around feeling all of my symptoms of my diabetes, high blood pressure and High Cholesteral although I am on medication for all of this, I know that one day I will feel much better... That day is coming for all of us!!!
Inner Surfer Girl 12,015 Posted April 24, 2015 I have been snoring for years according to my wife. This is a sign of sleep apnea. As a result during the pre-op testing and consultation, I was directed to be evaluated by a specialist in that field. He recommended I undergo a sleep test. I declined. I told him that one of the conditions which could be corrected by RNY surgery is sleep apnea. And that if I undergo the surgery and the condition was not corrected by the surgery, then I would undergo a sleep test. He accepted my rationale. A few weeks after surgery, my snoring stopped. I underwent RNY 23 months ago and this condition has been in remission over that entire time. Sometimes I would wake up in the middle of the night and find my wife hovering over me. I was sleeping so quietly that she feared I was dead and she was trying to see if I was still breathing. I am surprised your surgeon consented to do surgery with untreated sleep apnea. freelee 128 Posted April 26, 2015 Had my sleep study last night and was dreading it! It was strange getting set up, but after thinking I'd never fall asleep, I did and woke up feeling Fine. I don't know the results, but I'm finished with the requirements. Surgery is June 16! WiSh it was earlier, but I teach until that Friday.
lisaanewme67 123 Posted April 28, 2015 I had my sleep study last night. It was a very relaxing setup much like a hotel room with private bedroom and bathroom. I thought I slept great but unfortunately, I had to be awakened at 1am and be placed on a CPAP machine because 71 times per hour I had partial or full collapses (meaning I missed taking a breath 71 times per hour) in my sleep. After falling asleep with the CPAP machine, I had 0 collapses. I definitely have sleep apnea but the wonderful thing is that I know and can be treated until my surgery and I lose weight and be cured. I have be prescribed a CPAP machine. I will be getting setup by a home health care agency for it. Good thing is that it won't hinder my progress in getting my surgery scheduled. I just need to be sure to keep my log of usage for 30days. Just to think that I dreaded this sleep study and today, after having it, I am so grateful. lisaanewme67 123 Posted May 1, 2015 @@tiggerbug Correction I just spoke with the sleep study team and found out that I was wrong. I missed taking a breath 71 times a MINUTE!!! OMG... was I actually breathing while I was sleeping??? this is super scary. I am so thankful that I went ahead with the sleep study. I haven't been able to sleep much worrying if I am breathing but now... Oh Boy. I a going to push the lever to ASAP on this CPAP machine.
lisaanewme67 123 Posted May 5, 2015 GREAT NEWS!!! My CPAP machine will be delivered this evening. I will have happy dreams tonight. Finally I had the sleep study a week ago and after knowing I have sleep apnea and having 71 times per minutes collapses while I am sleeping without the use of the cpap, I have not been able to sleep since last Monday night worrying about if I am breathing while I sleep. I can't wait to get a full nights rest tonight... HOORAY!!! Happy Dance :-)
TLW 163 Posted May 6, 2015 I HATE my CPAP machine. I constantly find myself waking up with it wrapped around my neck, and blowing so much air that when Obget up in the morning I burp a humongous blast of air that I have swallowed. My one main wish besides weight loss is hopefully being able to get rid of that machine. Don't get me wrong, I know it's benefits, but it is a pain in the ass as well. lisaanewme67 123 Posted May 6, 2015 @@TLW oh my.. yes i do understand it is a pain. I will feel the same as u. Inside, I really do. I did wake up once or twice with the hose every which way. However with that cpap machine, i slept the best that I have slept in a very, very long time. So, until i get this weight off, i will be batteling the hose each and everynight...it beats getting up everyday feeling like i never went to bed. Dozing off all day. I will sleep better no collapses of breaths while im sleeping. "pappy" yes, I named the damm machine, and I will become the very best of friends!!!
